The f14 Photographers’ Commune begins its new three-month photography seminar series in Thessaloniki today, Wednesday 14 October 2026, focusing on artistic photography, film and hands-on darkroom work.

The opening session takes place at 7:00 pm at f14 gallery, Mitsaeon 3, beside the Ancient Agora. This year’s course, “Introduction to Artistic Photography”, is aimed at people who want to spend more time thinking about how they make pictures, rather than simply taking them.

From exposure to the photographic print

The programme brings together photography’s history and major artistic movements with the principles of image-making. Participants will explore light, subject selection, framing and personal expression, whether they shoot film or digital.

Particular attention is given to the analogue process: making deliberate decisions before exposure, developing film and working in the darkroom to produce a physical print. It is an opportunity to see how choices on either side of the shutter release shape the final photograph.

f14 continues its photography education activities following its 2025–2026 winter seminar series. The newly announced course places a particular emphasis on artistic practice and the experience of printing photographs.

Duration, certificate and registration

The course runs for three months, with a certificate of attendance provided on completion, according to the organisers. The announcement does not specify tuition fees, a detailed weekly timetable or available places; prospective participants should contact f14 for those details.

Information and registration: Fotis Palaiologos at 6932968574 and Katerina Marnellou at 6970656797. Inquiries can also be made in person at f14 gallery, Mitsaeon 3, Thessaloniki, Monday to Friday, 7:00–9:00 pm, or by calling 2310244714.

What we think

What makes this course interesting is its refusal to reduce photography to a checklist of camera settings. The history of the medium, the choice of subject and the finished print are treated as parts of the same creative process. That can be useful even for photographers who work entirely digitally.

Darkroom practice asks you to slow down and confront the consequences of your decisions. Film is not inherently superior to digital photography, but the process offers a different way to examine an image and decide what deserves to be shown.

Anyone considering the course should clarify a few practical points directly with f14 before enrolling: the weekly timetable, cost and how much supervised darkroom work is included.
