Spider-Man: Brand New Day has reached a new historic milestone, passing Avengers: Endgame to become the second-highest-grossing film of all time at the North American box office.
The Sony and Marvel release has reached $858.4 million domestically. Avengers: Endgame finished at $858.37 million, so the initial margin was extremely narrow.
No. 2 of all time in the U.S. and Canada
The domestic box office covers the United States and Canada. The chart is not adjusted for inflation, but it is the standard nominal ranking used by the North American film industry.
At $858.4 million, Brand New Day now trails only Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. The 2015 film remains first with approximately $936.7 million.
The gap is still substantial, but Spider-Man remains in theaters and continues to add revenue. Its chance of challenging the top position will depend on its staying power over the coming weeks and how many screens it retains.
From $2 billion to a new domestic record
PTTL previously reported that Spider-Man: Brand New Day passed $2 billion worldwide in about 19 days, while reaching 367,044 admissions in Greece through August 16.
Before that, the movie had climbed to $1.67 billion in only 12 days. The new development is different from another round-number worldwide milestone: it changes the historical ranking in the world’s largest individual theatrical market.
It passed the biggest Avengers finale
Avengers: Endgame arrived in 2019 as the climax of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Infinity Saga. Brand New Day passing its final domestic total demonstrates the level of demand for Tom Holland’s fourth solo Spider-Man film.
The achievement goes beyond the cumulative total. Brand New Day had already recorded the largest North American opening weekend, reaching around $360 million and beating Endgame’s previous record.
The biggest Marvel-based film in North America
By reaching second place, Brand New Day also becomes the highest-grossing film based on a Marvel character at the domestic box office. It has passed Spider-Man: No Way Home and is now Sony Pictures’ largest theatrical release.
The total will keep changing while the film remains in theaters. The key fact today is therefore not the tiny margin recorded immediately after the crossover but the ranking itself: Avengers: Endgame has moved to third.
This is not the worldwide chart
The No. 2 position applies only to the U.S. and Canada. Worldwide, Avatar and Avengers: Endgame remain at very different levels, with totals approaching or exceeding $2.8 billion.
Brand New Day has already joined the small club of films above $2 billion worldwide. Its domestic ranking may be even more revealing as a measure of Spider-Man’s strength in North America.
The trajectory was visible before release, when the Brand New Day trailer generated a record 718 million views. The film has now converted that extraordinary attention into one of the largest theatrical performances ever recorded.
