Blackmagic Design has announced substantial price cuts for the full-frame Cinema Camera 6K and PYXIS 6K, saving more than $1,000 on each model.

The September 4 announcement takes effect immediately worldwide. Cinema Camera 6K drops from $2,715 to $1,595, while PYXIS 6K models with L and EF mounts now cost $1,995. The PL version is $2,195. Blackmagic attributes the change to improved component pricing.

For independent filmmakers, corporate productions and small crews, the practical effect is significant: a dedicated full-frame 6K cinema body now approaches the price of many hybrid stills cameras while retaining tools and workflows built specifically for video production.

The new prices by model

Cinema Camera 6K gets the largest nominal cut, falling by $1,120 from $2,715 to $1,595. PYXIS 6K L drops from $3,080 to $1,995, while PYXIS 6K EF moves from $3,070 to $1,995. PYXIS 6K PL falls from $3,265 to $2,195.

Using the European Central Bank reference rate for September 4, 2026, EUR 1 = USD 1.1622, $1,595 converts to approximately €1,372.40, $1,995 to €1,716.57 and $2,195 to €1,888.66. These are currency conversions, not official Greek retail prices.

What remains unchanged

The cuts do not remove features. Both families use a 6048×4032 full-frame sensor with dual native ISO and sensitivity up to ISO 25,600. They record up to 36fps at full resolution, 60fps at 6048×2520 and 4K DCI, 100fps in a windowed 2112×1184 Super 16 mode and 120fps in HD.

PYXIS keeps L, EF and PL mount options, allowing lens compatibility and cost to guide the choice. Cinema Camera 6K remains the more integrated handheld option in this announcement, with different ergonomics from the box-style PYXIS body.

Why this matters more than another specification

A camera body is only one part of a production budget. Lenses, media, batteries, cages, monitors, audio and storage can quickly exceed the cost of the camera. A reduction of more than $1,000 can be redirected to those essentials or make a second body possible for multicamera work.

The move follows earlier Blackmagic interventions in professional camera pricing, including the URSA Cine reductions covered by PTTL. This time the entry point is much lower and relevant to a broader independent market.

Availability and price

The new prices are available immediately through Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide. The official announcement lists prices before local duties and taxes: $1,595 for Cinema Camera 6K, $1,995 for PYXIS 6K L and EF, and $2,195 for PYXIS 6K PL. At the ECB rate of September 4, 2026, EUR 1 = USD 1.1622, they convert to about €1,372.40, €1,716.57 and €1,888.66 respectively; these are not official Greek retail prices. More information is available in Blackmagic Design’s official announcement.

What we think

This change affects the real market, not just a specification sheet. The cameras do not become complete production systems without additional spending, but the lower body cost leaves meaningful room for lenses, sound and lighting. For small teams already invested in Blackmagic RAW and DaVinci Resolve, the new PYXIS 6K pricing is especially aggressive.
