Huawei has officially launched the Mate 90 series in China, with the imaging spotlight falling on the 200MP telephoto cameras in the Pro Max and RS, plus the new XMAGE Z10 modular camera with a 1-inch sensor.
The family includes the Mate 90, Mate 90 Pro, Mate 90 Pro Max and Mate 90 RS | ULTIMATE DESIGN. Chinese launch pricing starts at 5,999 yuan, while the most expensive standalone Mate 90 RS with 16GB RAM and 2TB storage reaches 18,999 yuan.
For image creators, the most important change is that Huawei is no longer relying only on the built-in camera system: the top models can work with the Z10, a separate camera module offering a true 24–240mm optical zoom range.
The Mate 90 camera systems
The standard Mate 90 uses a 50MP main camera with an f/1.4–f/4.0 variable aperture and OIS, a 40MP ultrawide and a 50MP f/2.2 telephoto with OIS at roughly 88mm equivalent. The Mate 90 Pro keeps a 50MP main and 40MP ultrawide, while its 50MP telephoto moves to f/2.1 at roughly 90mm and adds macro capability.
On the Mate 90 Pro Max and Mate 90 RS, Huawei raises telephoto resolution to 200MP. The module uses an f/2.6 aperture, OIS and telephoto macro, with an approximately 89mm equivalent focal length and 4x optical zoom. The Pro Max also supports RAW photography, Log video and HDR Vivid, with recording up to 4K.

Z10: a 1-inch sensor and 10x continuous optical zoom
The HUAWEI XMAGE Z10 is effectively a separate camera that mounts to compatible Mate 90 models. It uses a 1-inch stacked CMOS sensor with 50MP resolution and an RYYB layout, while its optics cover 24–240mm full-frame equivalent with 10x continuous optical zoom and an f/2.0–f/4.5 maximum aperture.
The lens contains 19 elements in 6 groups and accepts 77mm filters. The module supports AF-S, AF-C and manual focus, ISO 50–6400, an electronic shutter from 30 seconds to 1/4000, DNG stills and 4K video up to 60 fps. At about 346 grams, this is a substantial system extension rather than a tiny clip-on accessory.

The 200MP number is not the only imaging feature
On the Pro Max and RS, the main camera remains a 50MP unit with an f/1.4–f/4.0 variable aperture, OIS and an RYYB sensor, while the ultrawide is 40MP f/2.2. Huawei also adds its third-generation Red Maple color camera for more accurate color capture, and claims up to 18 EV of dynamic range for the main camera on the top models under its own measurement conditions.
The 200MP resolution provides more room for cropping and intermediate zoom steps, but real-world performance will still depend on sensor behavior, optics, stabilization, processing and low-light performance. That requires hands-on testing and cannot be determined from the megapixel count alone.

Displays, processors and battery
The Mate 90 uses a Kirin 9030 and a 6.75-inch 1–120Hz LTPO OLED. The Mate 90 Pro moves to the Kirin 9035 and a 6.75-inch dual-layer OLED, while the Pro Max and RS step up to 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED panels at 2848×1320. Huawei rates peak brightness at up to 12,000 nits on the Pro Max and RS under a specific laboratory measurement.
The Mate 90 and Mate 90 Pro use 6,600mAh batteries, with the Pro supporting up to 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. The Mate 90 Pro Max increases capacity to 6,800mAh while retaining 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. The Chinese models ship with HarmonyOS 7.0.

What we think
The most interesting development for creators is not only the 200MP telephoto, but Huawei turning its top Mate 90 models into the base of a genuine modular camera system with a 1-inch sensor and a 24–240mm zoom. The Z10 adds 346 grams and is limited to specific high-end models, so its practical value will depend heavily on workflow and final image quality. The built-in 200MP telephoto will likewise need real files and testing outside laboratory conditions before its performance can be judged.
