The film remained at the top of the Greek box office over the August 20–23, 2026 period, selling another 31,640 tickets across 96 theaters. Its cumulative total therefore rose to 891,679 admissions during its sixth week, while Spider-Man: Brand New Day followed with 25,065 admissions and a cumulative total of 421,491.

This time, the story is not simply another round-number milestone. PTTL had already reported days earlier that The Odyssey had reached 828,590 admissions in Greece and was moving closer to one million. The new development is different: at 891,679 viewers, the film is now within striking distance of Joker, one of the biggest titles in the modern Greek theatrical market.

Only 11,301 admissions behind Joker

Todd Phillips’ Joker reached approximately 902,980 admissions in Greece. With The Odyssey now at 891,679, the gap between the two films has narrowed to just 11,301 admissions.

This comparison is not new to PTTL. When Nolan’s film was still at 750,467 admissions, we examined where The Odyssey stood against Joker, 300, Stelios and other major Greek box-office successes. At the time, its gap from Joker was more than 150,000 admissions. That distance has now almost disappeared.

Based on the 31,640 admissions recorded over the latest four-day period, passing Joker is now an immediate target. It should not yet be treated as guaranteed, however, as weekly admissions normally decline as a film moves deeper into its theatrical run.

Still number one in its sixth week

What makes the performance more significant is its longevity.

The Odyssey sold 31,640 tickets over August 20–23 and remained number one despite already being in its sixth week. Spider-Man: Brand New Day followed with 25,065 admissions, the new Insidious: Out of the Further opened with 19,649 and Fjord attracted 16,080 viewers.

That staying power is more important than the result of a single weekend. The film is no longer relying on opening-week momentum but on sustained attendance despite the arrival of new releases.

The pattern had started even before release. In Greece, The Odyssey recorded more than 32,000 presales at Village Cinemas, breaking the chain’s previous record held by Avengers: Endgame.

From 750,467 to 891,679 in around two weeks

The speed at which The Odyssey has climbed through the modern Greek ranking is clearer when compared with PTTL’s previous reports.

Through August 9, the film stood at 750,467 admissions. By August 19, PTTL had recorded a new total of 828,590, and it now stands at 891,679. That means more than 140,000 admissions have been added in roughly two weeks.

Compared only with the previous 828,590 figure, the increase is 63,089 admissions.

The film is also only 8,321 admissions short of 900,000. That milestone is close, but it is not the central point of the latest update: the meaningful change is that The Odyssey is now directly behind Joker and is moving toward even higher positions in the modern Greek market.

What comes after Joker

Under the modern reference ranking used in our earlier analysis, Joker’s approximately 902,980 admissions are followed by Troy at 916,170, Avatar at 939,814 and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King at 949,098.

From its current total of 891,679, The Odyssey is 11,301 admissions behind Joker, 24,491 behind Troy, 48,135 behind Avatar and 57,419 behind The Return of the King.

That does not mean all of these films will necessarily be overtaken. It does show how dramatically The Odyssey’s position has changed in only a matter of weeks.

Historical rankings require caution

Any reference to an “all-time Top 10” in Greece needs qualification.

Older Greek box-office records were not all collected using the same methodology, while different cumulative figures exist for some titles. That is why PTTL’s previous analysis used a modern reference ranking rather than presenting an absolute and undisputed table covering the entire history of theatrical exhibition in Greece.

That caveat does not diminish the significance of 891,679 admissions. It places the figure in the correct context: The Odyssey has already reached a level achieved by very few films in the modern Greek market.

IMAX was not just a technical choice

The commercial trajectory of The Odyssey is also tied to the way Nolan positioned the film as a large-screen experience.

Before release, PTTL examined how the production became the first feature-length movie shot entirely on IMAX film, requiring solutions to practical problems such as camera noise and the handling of large-format equipment.

That technical decision later translated into commercial performance. PTTL subsequently reported that the film had generated $289 million from IMAX screenings, setting a new historical record for the format.

For a publication focused on photography and imaging technology, this is one of the more important aspects of the film’s success: an expensive and demanding analog capture process did not remain a technical detail for filmmakers but became part of how the movie was presented to audiences.

Worldwide, it has already passed Deadpool & Wolverine

At the same time, the movie’s international run has crossed another major threshold.

The Odyssey has now earned more than $1.4 billion worldwide and has passed Deadpool & Wolverine, which finished with roughly $1.338 billion. Nolan’s film is therefore now the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time based on nominal worldwide box-office revenue.

The R classification refers to the U.S. age-rating system and does not directly correspond to Greek theatrical classifications.

The international achievement becomes even more significant when viewed alongside the technical gamble behind the production. The Odyssey is now the highest-grossing film of Nolan’s career, while its IMAX film strategy evolved from a creative choice into a central part of the movie’s commercial identity.

At 891,679 admissions, the next interesting development for The Odyssey is no longer simply another round-number milestone. It is the possibility of passing titles that serve as genuine reference points for the modern Greek theatrical market.

The 11,301-admission gap from Joker is small enough that the next Greek box-office report could alter the ranking again. More importantly, however, the film remains number one in its sixth week.

The route from more than 32,000 presales to today’s 891,679 admissions also shows that the initial demand did not disappear after opening weekend. That may be the clearest reason why the Greek run of The Odyssey remains worth following several weeks after release.
