OnePlus has unveiled the OnePlus 16 in China with a 200 MP main camera, a 3x telephoto lens and a 9,000 mAh battery, but European photographers have no official local launch to look forward to.

The announcement came on October 12, 2026, putting confirmed specifications in place of months of speculation. The earlier OnePlus 16 camera leak described a 200 MP sensor alongside three 50 MP cameras, which is now the company’s official configuration.

A 200 MP main camera and three useful shooting perspectives

The main camera pairs a 200 MP, 1/1.4-type sensor with an f/1.6 aperture. Such resolution can provide more room to crop a well-exposed, detailed shot, but megapixels alone say little about dynamic range or noise under difficult lighting.

The 50 MP periscope telephoto camera offers 3x optical zoom, useful for portraits, architecture and subjects you cannot physically approach. A 50 MP ultrawide covers a 116-degree field of view, while the front-facing 50 MP camera has autofocus, a useful addition for selfies and vlogging when subject distance changes.

LUMO imaging and the questions still worth asking

OPPO’s LUMO imaging system handles the computational side of the camera, including processing the sensor data into a finished photograph. OnePlus is promoting landscape detail in particular, though marketing imagery should not be mistaken for independent image-quality tests.

What photographers need to assess is texture, highlight retention, shadows and consistency between lenses in real scenes. The evidence available here is not sufficient to establish RAW workflow details, colour matching or specific video and Log recording capabilities. Those should not be assumed from the hardware list.

A 9,000 mAh battery, fast display and three finishes

The silicon-carbon 9,000 mAh battery supports 100 W wired and 50 W wireless charging. That capacity is compelling for extended shooting days, navigation and transferring media, although actual endurance when taking photos and video still needs testing.

Other hardware includes the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, up to 16 GB RAM, up to 1 TB storage and a 6.78-inch OLED screen. Refresh rates reach 165 Hz in general use and 185 Hz in supported games. The China-market phone runs ColorOS 17, not a confirmed European OxygenOS configuration.

Those finishes are black Dark Forest, silver Tomorrow’s Star and copper-orange Martian Masterpiece. The silver version has an illuminated “16” graphic on the rear. The phone is also listed with IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ingress-resistance ratings.

Chinese pricing and availability — not European prices

Sales in China start on October 13, 2026. Promotional launch prices are CNY 5,699 for 12 GB/256 GB, CNY 6,499 for 12 GB/512 GB, CNY 7,199 for 16 GB/512 GB and CNY 8,199 for 16 GB/1 TB. Additional national or regional subsidies advertised in China do not translate into international retail pricing.

There is no announced official launch or price for Greece or the European Union. OnePlus has withdrawn from launching new phones in Europe and the United States, leaving no announced European release plan for this device. Full specifications are available on the official Chinese OnePlus 16 product page.

What we think

What interests us most is that OnePlus has not relied solely on one very high-resolution main camera. It has retained meaningful resolution across the other cameras and included a genuine 3x optical telephoto. For a photographer carrying a phone every day, having useful framing options may matter more than the biggest number on a promotional poster.

Still, we would not judge image quality until original files and comparable shooting examples are available. The f/1.6 aperture, sensor size and LUMO pipeline deserve attention, but they do not show how the camera handles movement, bright highlights or aggressive sharpening. Ranking it above competing camera phones now would be premature.

There is also a practical limitation that cannot be ignored: European photographers can read the spec sheet but cannot buy the OnePlus 16 through an announced local launch. Importing a China-market phone raises questions about warranty, after-sales support, cellular bands and software services. Those considerations limit its usefulness as a buying recommendation today, whatever the hardware promises.

Frequently asked questions

Will the OnePlus 16 launch officially in Greece?

No Greek or EU price or official launch has been announced. The confirmed sales date and prices concern China.

Does the main camera always shoot 200 MP images?

The 200 MP figure describes the sensor’s maximum nominal resolution, not necessarily the default image output. The exact default file size and the behaviour of every capture mode have not been established here.
