Westcott has introduced the FJ100 Touchscreen AC/DC Strobe and FJ100 Touchscreen Speedlight, two 100Ws wireless flashes that are the most compact lights in the FJ Wireless System to date.
The new lineup includes a portable off-camera strobe and a speedlight, with both models featuring touchscreen controls, a shared rechargeable battery and compatibility with Westcott’s existing wireless lighting ecosystem.
The announcement is significant because it combines 100Ws output, compact dimensions and long battery life, primarily targeting photographers who work on location or frequently carry their equipment between assignments.
Shared battery and battery life
Both new flashes use the same Westcott FJ Mini AC/DC Battery, which is removable, rechargeable through USB-C and interchangeable between the strobe and speedlight.
According to Westcott, a single charge delivers more than 700 full-power flashes with the FJ100 Strobe and more than 575 full-power flashes with the FJ100 Speedlight. Using the same battery reduces the number of different chargers and spare battery packs a photographer needs to carry.
Dimensions and portability
The FJ100 Strobe measures 15.7 x 12.7 x 7.9 centimeters and weighs approximately 0.7 kilograms.
The FJ100 Speedlight measures 19.1 x 7.6 x 7.6 centimeters and weighs approximately 0.6 kilograms. Despite their different designs, Westcott positions both models as the smallest lighting units introduced for the FJ Wireless System so far.
Output, zoom and synchronization
Both the strobe and speedlight deliver 100Ws of output and include automatic or manual flash zoom control from 24 to 200mm. They also work with Westcott Twist Lock light modifiers, including umbrellas, softboxes and other light-shaping accessories.
Available functions include TTL, High-Speed Sync up to 1/8000s, Freeze Sync and Stroboscopic Mode. Recycling times range from 0.01 to 1.6 seconds, depending on the selected output.
Westcott says both flashes can support continuous shooting with flash at up to 60 frames per second. They also feature a built-in LED modeling light, while the company promises consistent color performance throughout the entire power range.
Wireless control and Creative Mask
The FJ100 models work with existing FJ Wireless System strobes, speedlights, triggers and receivers.
The system supports remote control of up to 16 lighting groups across 31 channels, with a maximum range of 100 meters under optimal conditions. This enables the new models to become part of larger lighting setups without requiring a separate wireless system.
The FJ100 Strobe also includes Westcott’s Creative Mask mode. This feature can produce up to six different lighting variations without moving the flash or the subject.
