The Brightin Star MF 50mm f/2 Tri-Sight is now available, bringing three different approaches to out-of-focus rendering to a manual full-frame 50mm lens.
The lens was shown earlier in 2026 and is now commercially available for Sony E, Nikon Z, Canon RF and L-Mount. Brightin Star’s official store lists it at a $349.99 sale price, compared with a stated regular price of $399.99.
Its defining feature is a third ring, in addition to focus and aperture controls, with Smooth, Prime and Foams positions for different bokeh rendering styles.
Smooth, Prime and Foams from the same lens
Smooth produces softer, more diffuse out-of-focus areas, Prime is the more neutral option, and Foams creates more pronounced ring-shaped highlights. The change happens mechanically inside the lens.
The third ring moves an internal optical group and changes the correction of spherical aberrations, allowing photographers and filmmakers to alter the visual character without changing lenses.
Shaped bokeh with dedicated inserts
The creative options also include rear-mounted bokeh inserts. These fit at the back of the lens and change the shape of out-of-focus highlights, with designs including a star, triangle, butterfly and clover.

This feature is especially relevant for portraits, still life, night photography and video where background light sources are an active part of the intended visual style.

What we think
The Tri-Sight is not simply another manual 50mm lens. Its main appeal is the ability to change rendering directly in-camera, together with the dedicated bokeh inserts, which can be useful when background aesthetics are part of the creative intent.
The lack of autofocus limits its usefulness for fast action, but in controlled photo and video work its unusual rendering options are exactly what set it apart.
