A new feature called Moods appears to be in development for Google Photos.

The feature was discovered in version 7.81 of the application before any official announcement. If released publicly, it will expand the platform’s existing suite of AI tools, which already includes Magic Editor, Highlight Video, Collage and Cinematic Photo.

Unlike traditional filters that apply the same adjustments to every image, the new tool appears to use artificial intelligence to analyze the content and composition of a photo before making edits.

What is Moods

According to information found inside the application code, Moods is not a traditional filter system. The AI evaluates the subject, lighting and composition of an image and selectively adjusts elements to achieve a desired visual style.

This approach is closer to AI-assisted creative editing than standard presets.

The eight available Moods

The current test version includes eight presets:

  • Airy Minimalist
  • Crisp 35mm
  • 2000’s Cinema
  • Rich Textures
  • Pink Digicam
  • Retro Contrast
  • Night Lights
  • 2000’s Night

Each preset focuses on a different visual aesthetic, ranging from film-inspired looks to retro digital camera styles.

Not officially announced yet

Although the feature has been discovered within the application code, it remains inactive and there are currently no public examples demonstrating its final results.

Google has not announced a release date and has not confirmed that the feature will be released to users.

The discovery comes as Google continues to expand the AI capabilities of Google Photos with increasingly advanced creative editing tools.
