Summary
HONOR is preparing the Magic 9 series for September, but the eye-catching claims of two 200MP cameras and ARRI technology remain a leak.
A new post by Smart Pikachu attributes a 200MP main camera and a 200MP periscope telephoto to the top model—referred to as Magic 9 Pro Max—along with large sensors and optical stabilisation.
The report has genuine photographic interest because HONOR has already confirmed its direction towards ARRI imaging and has shown a teaser carrying a 200MP marking. However, neither the final Pro/Pro Max naming nor the complete dual-200MP system has been officially announced.
What the leak claims
According to the post, the supposed Magic 9 Pro Max main camera will use a 1/1.28-inch type sensor, an f/1.57 lens and a stabilisation system of around three degrees. The periscope telephoto is said to feature a 1/1.4-inch type sensor, 200MP resolution, an f/2.6 aperture and OIS.
If confirmed, these specifications would show HONOR focusing not only on resolution but also on light collection and telephoto stability. Both sensors would be unusually large for a smartphone, especially the periscope module.
The numbers alone cannot predict image quality. Real performance will depend on the optics, autofocus, multi-frame processing, tone mapping and the way the system uses 200MP data for standard and zoomed images.
What HONOR has officially shown
HONOR’s official communication confirms that the Magic 9 series is coming in September and links the new generation to the company’s ARRI collaboration. A camera-module teaser displays the ARRI logo and the marking “200MP 1/1.4 OIS 1:2.6 ASPH”, strengthening the possibility of a large 200MP telephoto camera.
This is not, however, official confirmation of two 200MP cameras. HONOR has not published a complete specification sheet, focal lengths, video capabilities or a clear allocation of sensors across the different models.
What the ARRI collaboration may mean
HONOR has already presented a broader imaging system with ARRI references in its Robot Phone. The collaboration has been associated with cinematic colour, 10-bit workflows, LogC3, Wide Gamut 3 and ARRI Looks.
It is not yet known which of these tools will transfer unchanged to the Magic 9 series. The ARRI logo may refer to colour science, profiles, video processing or a broader feature set. Until the official launch, it should not be assumed that every Robot Phone capability will also be present on Magic 9 devices.
Why two 200MP cameras would matter
A 200MP main camera can use pixel binning for lower-resolution, more light-sensitive output and provide crop flexibility in good light. In a telephoto camera, the same resolution can form the basis for intermediate focal lengths without a separate additional camera.
The advantage is not automatic. Very small pixels combined with limited optics can increase noise and dependence on software. Quality will be determined by how much real detail reaches the sensor and how naturally textures survive processing.
Pro or Pro Max? The naming is unclear
Leaks do not fully agree on the structure of the series. Some reports mention Magic 9 Pro, while others add a Magic 9 Pro Max. Even if the camera specifications are correct, it is therefore uncertain which commercial model will receive them.
The distinction matters because a different body size can allow a larger camera island, a larger battery and a different lens layout. Until an official product page appears, the Magic 9 Pro Max name must be treated as unconfirmed.
Launch date, price and availability
HONOR has placed the Magic 9 series launch in September. The September 28 date circulating in reports comes from a leak and has not been officially confirmed.
Pricing, European availability and a Greek release have not been announced. There is no official Magic 9 Pro or Pro Max product page yet, so any retail price or on-sale date would be premature.
What we think
The official image carrying 200MP and ARRI markings shows that HONOR is preparing a serious camera upgrade. A dual-200MP system is technically plausible, but for now it relies on a chain of leaks rather than a complete announcement. The correct test will be real image quality in low light, zoom and video—not the sum of the megapixel figures.
Frequently asked questions
Has HONOR confirmed two 200MP cameras?
No. The company has shown a teaser with 200MP and ARRI markings, but the second 200MP camera and the complete system remain leaked information.
Is the Magic 9 Pro Max name official?
Not fully. The name appears in leaks, while HONOR has not clarified the final Pro and Pro Max structure.
What could ARRI contribute?
The collaboration may involve colour, profiles and cinematic video workflows, but the exact Magic 9 features have not been announced.
When will the series launch?
HONOR has placed the launch in September 2026. The exact date currently circulating is not official.
