Huawei has introduced the Ruiying Z10, an external camera module that adds its own 50MP 1-inch-type sensor and a 24–240mm lens with 10x continuous optical zoom to selected Mate 90 phones.
This is not a simple add-on telephoto lens for a smartphone placed in front of the phone’s existing camera. The Z10 integrates its own image sensor and complete optical system, while working closely with the smartphone for capture and file handling.
The idea is to bring two previously separate workflows closer together: the reach of a compact zoom camera and the immediate connectivity of a smartphone.
1. A 1-inch sensor and a self-contained optical system
At the heart of the Ruiying Z10 is a 50MP 1-inch-type stacked CMOS sensor with an RYYB layout. Huawei combines it with its HyperClick mount so the module attaches directly to a compatible phone and operates as a complete capture unit.
Huawei’s official documentation lists compatibility with the HUAWEI Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition and HUAWEI Mate 90 RS. The module itself weighs about 346 grams, so attaching it makes a substantial difference to the phone’s handling and total weight.

2. 24–240mm with 10x continuous optical zoom
The lens covers a 24–240mm-equivalent range and provides 10x continuous optical zoom, avoiding the abrupt jumps between separate fixed cameras that are common on smartphones. Maximum aperture ranges from f/2.0 at the wide end to f/4.5 at telephoto.
The optical design uses 19 elements in 6 groups. There is a 77mm filter thread and a control ring, while the focusing system supports AI autofocus, AF-S, AF-C and manual focus.

3. RAW, electronic shutter and 4K video
For stills, the Z10 supports JPEG, HEIF and DNG files, with a maximum image size of 8192 × 6144 pixels. Manual ISO runs from 50 to 6400, while the electronic shutter covers 30 seconds to 1/4000 second.
Video options include 4K, 1080p and 720p at 30 or 60 fps. For slow motion, Huawei lists 1080p at 120, 240 or 960 fps.
4. Accessories and portability
The module measures roughly 79.95 × 69.9 × 79mm, with a small variation depending on the version for the compatible phone. The standard box includes the module, lens hood, lens cap and carrying pouch.
Huawei also shows optional accessories such as a tripod adapter ring and carrying strap, which are not necessarily included with the standard package.

5. Price and availability
In China, the Ruiying Z10 costs 5,999 yuan. Huawei also offers a HUAWEI Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition 1TB bundle with the module for 19,499 yuan.
No official European price or availability announcement for Greece was found.

What we think
The Ruiying Z10 is interesting not only because of its 1-inch sensor, but because it combines that sensor with a true continuous 24–240mm optical zoom while remaining integrated with a phone-based workflow. Its 346-gram weight and limited compatibility, however, make it look more like a specialised imaging tool than an accessory users will leave attached to a phone all day.
