Photowalk Photonic

The Photowalk Photonic group presents “Small Stories of the City”, a photography exhibition at Oraion Depo in Thessaloniki, from 12 to 31 October 2026, opening on Monday 12 October at 19:00.

Curated by photographer Maria Thamnidou, the exhibition brings together black-and-white and colour street photography by 16 contributors, focusing on people and moments that often go unnoticed in everyday life.

Four sections, different rhythms of the city

The exhibition follows four thematic sections. “Play and Rhythm” begins with movement, light and the carefree nature of children’s play. In “Those in a Hurry”, passers-by cross black-and-white frames, with a sense of passing time shaping the images.

“Illuminated Windows” turns to the city at night and people working under artificial light. “Alone in the City” closes the exhibition with scenes of solitude and the quiet of twilight.

Light as part of the story

Natural and artificial light connect the sections: sunlight behind clouds, a streetlamp or a cart’s lamp brings people into view while leaving other elements in shadow. Blurred figures in motion and people standing still create contrasting impressions of time within the same city.

In the photographs accompanying the exhibition, people also meet the geometry of urban space: building surfaces, shadows and reflections become part of the composition alongside the movement of a passer-by.

What we think

For street photographers, the interest lies in how individual moments are brought together across four distinct sections. The accompanying images offer an opportunity to study how light, shadow and movement structure an everyday subject, without needing to know the story of the person depicted.
