Taking off your gloves to change a camera setting in freezing weather is inconvenient enough. Hunting for a misplaced lens cap makes it worse. OM SYSTEM and Foxfire have designed a pair of gloves to tackle both problems.
The OM SYSTEM × Foxfire Octamitten Gloves launched in Japan on October 8, 2026. They were jointly developed by OM Digital Solutions and TiEMCO, the company behind Japanese outdoor brand Foxfire.
From covered mitten to exposed fingertips
A fold-over mitten flap covers four fingers for warmth. Fold it back and the fingers are free for camera dials, focus adjustments and touchscreens. The thumb has its own opening cover, too.

This approach is particularly useful when photographing wildlife or landscapes, or waiting outside for changing light. Hands can remain covered between shots rather than requiring the gloves to be removed entirely.
Pockets for a 72mm lens cap and a hand warmer
The distinctive detail is a dedicated pocket for a lens cap up to 72mm in diameter, giving photographers somewhere more predictable to put it. Another pocket is intended for a small disposable hand warmer, which is not listed as included in the package.

Materials and included liner gloves
The mitten section and back of the glove use abrasion-resistant CORDURA 2WAY ripstop. Stretch microfleece with grip dots covers the palm, while the lining uses Octa CPCP. The aim is warmth with breathability, although the company does not specify a certified minimum operating temperature.
A pair of lighter liner gloves is included to allow different wearing combinations. The Octamitten is offered in black, in unisex sizes S, M and L.

The collaboration also fits OM SYSTEM’s broader outdoors positioning, which has extended beyond camera equipment into unusual products such as the OM SYSTEM Ragù ready meal for photographers.
Price and availability
The gloves launched in Japan on October 8, 2026. The press release lists a tax-inclusive price of ¥11,680, whereas the official Japanese store currently lists the set including liner gloves at ¥11,860. No official European price or Greek availability was verified. More information is available on the product page.
What we think
The lens-cap pocket grabs attention, but the more persuasive design choice is the ability to switch quickly between covered, insulated fingers and the bare fingertips needed for precise adjustments. Small buttons and touchscreens become surprisingly awkward when hands are cold.
The liner gloves and warmer pocket offer options for different conditions. Still, without independent testing we cannot judge their performance over hours of shooting or in particularly low temperatures. Fit and access to the controls on your specific camera matter more than the novelty of a clever pocket.
These gloves appear thoughtfully aimed at photographers who spend long stretches outdoors. Their Japanese-only launch is the immediate limitation for European photographers, who would benefit from being able to try the fit before purchasing.
