Tamron has announced the availability of its popular 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD standard zoom lens for Nikon Z and Canon RF mounts.

The announcement targets users of APS-C mirrorless cameras from Nikon and Canon, giving them access to one of the most versatile fast zoom lenses in the category.

The lens retains the features that made it successful on other systems, combining a wide zoom range, constant F2.8 aperture and built-in image stabilization.

Wide zoom range for everyday photography

The Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 offers a 4.1x zoom ratio, which the company describes as the largest in its class among APS-C standard zoom lenses with a constant F2.8 aperture.

On Nikon Z APS-C cameras it delivers an equivalent focal range of approximately 25.5-105mm, while on Canon RF APS-C cameras it covers about 27.2-112mm.

Constant F2.8 aperture and image stabilization

The constant F2.8 aperture is available throughout the zoom range, allowing improved low-light performance and better control over depth of field.

The lens also incorporates Tamron’s VC stabilization system for more stable still photography and video recording.

Designed with video creators in mind

Tamron equips the lens with its RXD autofocus system, providing fast and quiet focusing performance.

The company has also minimized focus breathing, making the lens more suitable for video production.

Compact design and close focusing

Despite its large zoom range and bright aperture, the lens remains relatively compact.

The Nikon Z version weighs 540g, while the Canon RF version weighs 530g.

The minimum focusing distance reaches 0.19m at the wide end, enabling creative close-up photography.

Availability

The Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD for Nikon Z and Canon RF will be released on July 2, 2026.

What we think

The arrival of the 17-70mm F2.8 on Nikon Z and Canon RF systems is an important addition for APS-C users. Its combination of zoom versatility, constant F2.8 aperture and image stabilization makes it one of the most complete all-purpose lens options currently available.
