Tamron has announced the 20-40mm F2.8 Di III VXD (Model A062) for Nikon Z, a compact full-frame zoom weighing just 380g.

The lens features a constant F2.8 maximum aperture and launches on October 22, 2026.

A versatile 20-40mm focal range

At 20mm, the lens suits landscapes, architecture, interiors and vlogging. At 40mm it works for everyday photography and environmental portraits. On Nikon DX cameras, the equivalent range is 30-60mm.

VXD autofocus and compact design

A VXD linear motor drives autofocus for stills and video. The Nikon Z version measures 88.7mm in length and 74.4mm in diameter, while the zoom ring rotates through 65 degrees.

Optical construction and protection

The lens has 12 elements in 11 groups, nine rounded aperture blades, a 67mm filter thread, moisture-resistant construction and a fluorine coating. It also supports TAMRON Lens Utility.

Price and availability

The Nikon Z version launches on October 22, 2026. Tamron lists a US price of $729; no official European price was verified.

What we think

The combination of 20-40mm coverage, a constant F2.8 aperture and low weight is appealing for travel photography and lightweight video setups. Its 40mm long end is less flexible than a conventional 24-70mm zoom. Independent tests will be needed to assess optical performance on Nikon Z.
