Hohem introduced the Eyepic at IFA 2026 in Berlin as its first camera and, according to the company, the world’s first “2-in-1” pocket gimbal camera. The capture module detaches magnetically from the three-axis gimbal, allowing the same system to work either handheld or as a compact wearable camera.
The importance of the concept goes beyond its small size. Hohem is trying to solve a practical problem for creators: avoiding the need for one camera for smooth handheld movement and another for first-person footage, cycling, travel or underwater use.
One camera, two ways to shoot
When the module sits on the gimbal, the Eyepic provides three-axis stabilisation for handheld footage. It detaches in one motion and becomes an independent lightweight camera, while the gimbal mechanism retracts and locks.
The concept is more modular than the conventional layout of a pocket camera with a built-in gimbal. Instead of being tied to the handle, the user can place the capture module on a hat or wear it around the neck with the supplied accessories, or attach it to suitable metal surfaces through its magnetic mount.
A detachable module for wearable and action shots
The detachable module is waterproof to a depth of 10 metres, according to Hohem. The announcement explicitly refers to the camera module rather than the whole handle and gimbal, an important distinction for use near or in water.
The company suggests family days out, travel, cycling, walking pets and other outdoor activities. The practical benefit is that the same camera can quickly change perspective, moving from controlled handheld motion to first-person capture.
True vertical 4K60 without cropping
The 2.51-inch touchscreen rotates with one hand and the camera physically changes orientation with it. In portrait position it records up to 2160 × 3840 pixels at 60 frames per second, delivering full vertical 4K without cropping a horizontal frame.
That has practical value for TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts because the composition is made in a vertical frame from the start. The creator sees the final framing while shooting instead of sacrificing resolution and margins in a later crop.
The handle remains a monitor and remote
With the camera detached, the handle does not become redundant. Its display shows a 1080p live preview, allows settings to be changed and works from up to 10 metres away, according to the company.
This can make it easier to position the camera where its rear side is not directly visible. At the same time, control remains on the handle without requiring a smartphone for framing every shot.
Where it sits against DJI and Insta360
The Eyepic enters a category with mature pocket gimbal cameras and compact action cameras from companies such as DJI and Insta360. Its main point of difference is not another stabilisation mode but the physical separation of the camera from the gimbal.
Full final specifications are not yet available for a reliable comparison of sensor, lens, battery life or image quality. Hohem will need to prove that the modular design does not compromise the security of the magnetic connection, thermal performance or endurance.
