Insta360 has unveiled the X6, its new flagship 360 camera featuring 8K50fps recording, larger Sony sensors, a triple AI processing system and a European price of €699.

The Insta360 X6 was announced on August 12, 2026, and is available immediately, with the Standard Bundle priced at €699 in the European market.

The new generation goes beyond a simple resolution upgrade by combining full 360-degree capture, automatic subject tracking with conventional 4K output and a single-lens mode that turns the X6 into an action camera.

Larger Sony sensors and a triple AI chip

The X6 uses two custom square 1/1.1-inch Sony sensors that Insta360 says provide a 360 imaging area equivalent to a 1-inch sensor. Their total sensor area is 33% larger than that of the X5, with the company claiming roughly four times the light intake per frame.

The processing system consists of three chips: an eight-core 3.3GHz 4nm processor and two dedicated imaging chips. Insta360 claims 500% more computing power than the X5, a 106% higher clock speed and 35% lower power consumption.

For night shooting, two ambient-light sensors are designed to reduce flicker, while AdaptiveTone 2.0 meters each lens independently and captures two exposures per frame to extend dynamic range.

Native 8K50fps and Dolby Vision

The Insta360 X6 can record full 360 video at native 8K resolution and 50 frames per second. The core advantage of 360 capture remains the ability to choose the final framing after recording because the entire surrounding scene has been captured simultaneously.

Insta360 also describes the X6 as the first 360 camera with native in-camera Dolby Vision. It supports 10-bit color with more than 1.07 billion recordable colors, while Dolby Vision dynamic metadata adjusts contrast and brightness according to the footage.

Three cameras in one device

The first option is conventional 360 capture, allowing users to record the entire scene and decide on the final viewing angle afterward.

With InstaFrame 2.0, the X6 can detect and track people, pets and objects, producing conventional flat 4K video directly from the camera without requiring reframing after the shoot. Combined with the Foldable Selfie Stick Remote Kit, operation can more closely resemble a gimbal.

The third mode uses a single lens, effectively turning the X6 into an action camera. Resolution reaches 5K60fps, with a field of view of up to 170 degrees at 5K30 in Flat mode or 132 degrees at 5K60.

AI Director handles editing automatically

One of the most interesting additions is AI Director. When the camera is plugged in to charge, it can automatically analyze recorded footage, create a highlight edit and send the finished clips to the Insta360 app.

Auto Edit 2.0 can process one or multiple clips and handle framing, virtual camera movements, cuts, music and transitions. The technology is based on Insta360’s PanoMind multimodal model, which the company says has been trained on more than 10,000 hours of footage across more than 30 different scenarios.

Moments Pro adds a similar cloud-based option, allowing users to define the subject, mood, style and timeframe before the video is generated automatically.

OLED display and up to 140 minutes of battery life

The X6 features a 2.32-inch OLED rear display with peak brightness of 1,200 nits and an always-on function for improved visibility outdoors.

The new Xtreme Battery has a capacity of 2,600mAh and, according to Insta360, provides up to 140 minutes of continuous 8K30fps 360 recording, 51% longer than the X5. Charging from zero to 80% takes 24 minutes, while the battery is designed to operate at temperatures as low as -20°C.

The X6 also uses the Star-Ridge cooling system with an insulated grip area. Insta360 claims it is 10% more efficient than cooling systems found in competing 360 cameras and designed for sustained 8K recording.

Replaceable lenses and 20-meter waterproofing

The second generation of the Replaceable Lenses system allows users to replace the outer lenses if they become damaged. According to Insta360, the new lenses are five times more scratch-resistant and 60% cheaper to replace than the previous generation.

The camera carries an IP68 rating and can be used without an additional housing to a depth of 20 meters. With the Invisible Dive Case Pro, the maximum depth increases to 60 meters.

There is 64GB of internal storage, of which 47GB is available to the user. This means recording can begin even when no SD card is installed in the camera.

Upgraded audio for challenging conditions

Insta360 has upgraded the 360 microphones to improve wind-noise handling. There is also a new Hidden Engine Mic specifically tuned for motorcycle use, designed to suppress wind noise while better isolating engine sound.

Intelligent Audio Mode automatically adapts processing to the surrounding environment, while Insta360 Direct Connect supports two Insta360 Mic Air or Mic Pro transmitters simultaneously.

Stabilization and faster connectivity

FlowState Stabilization and 360 Horizon Lock handle stabilization and keep footage level regardless of the camera’s orientation.

Connectivity includes NFC, Wi-Fi 6.0 with wireless transfers at up to 100MB/s and USB 3.0 with wired speeds of up to 450MB/s. Insta360 also claims Bluetooth pairing in around five seconds and reconnection in under one second.

Tools for professional post-production

For more demanding color grading, the X6 supports 10-bit recording and I-Log, designed to preserve more information in highlights and shadows.

Insta360 Studio remains free for Mac and Windows and supports multi-clip 360 editing. Insta360+ Cloud can also automatically back up footage while the camera charges, with up to 2TB of storage, file sharing, cloud editing and export tools.

More than 100 accessories

The X6 supports more than 100 accessories and uses a magnetic mounting system compatible with X5, X4 Air and Ace mounts.

New accessories include the X6 Power Selfie Stick, which can add up to 180 minutes of runtime, the Foldable Selfie Stick Remote Kit with a gimbal-style joystick, the Bullet Time Selfie Stick 2.0, the Fast Charge Case with slots for two batteries and two SD cards, and the Invisible Dive Case Pro.

Cyclists can overlay data from Garmin, Apple Watch and Insta360 GPS devices. Car accessories include dedicated mounts and an electric suction cup, while motorcycle features include a holographic speed overlay, automatic dashcam-style looping and automatic license-plate blurring.

What we think

The X6 is clearly a more substantial upgrade than simply adding more frames per second to 8K recording. Larger sensors, 10-bit color, Dolby Vision, longer battery life and, most importantly, the ability to work as a 360 camera, tracking camera and action camera significantly broaden its potential uses. Moving more AI processing directly onto the device is equally interesting. At €699, however, it now sits in a price category where real-world image quality and the effectiveness of its new AI features will need to justify the investment in independent testing.
