Event Details
A photographer from Greece could secure a solo exhibition in Buenos Aires through NEARFAR, a new international exchange programme launched by the Photometria Photography Center.
The Ioannina-based organisation is partnering with Galería FotoCreativaBA in Argentina. Each partner will select an artist from the other country for a solo show in 2027. Greek applicants have until 31 October 2026 to enter, with a €30 application fee.
How the Greece–Argentina exchange works
The curatorial team at Galería FotoCreativaBA will review submissions from Greece and choose a photographer or visual artist for a solo exhibition in Buenos Aires. Photometria Photography Center will select an Argentine artist for a show in Ioannina. In both cases, the hosting institution makes the final curatorial choice.
There is no prescribed theme, nor a requirement to create a new project specifically for the call. Applicants should submit a cohesive solo-exhibition proposal built around a body of photographic work. Greek artists living in Greece or abroad are eligible; the same residency flexibility applies to Argentine applicants.
Photometria Photography Center has already hosted exhibitions spanning photography and other visual practices in Ioannina. NEARFAR adds a reciprocal international dimension, bringing a Greek artist to an Argentine gallery and an Argentine artist to Greece.
What the organisers cover
The host institution covers local production, including high-quality prints, mounting, installation, introductory and promotional material, and photographic documentation. Each solo show is planned to run for three to four weeks, with exhibition periods expected to begin in February 2027.
The published terms say selected artists will not pay for production, framing, installation or international shipping of artworks. Instead, final files must be supplied digitally as high-resolution TIFF or JPG images at 300 ppi for local printing. Travel and accommodation for the artist are not listed among the funded benefits and should not be assumed to be included.
Artists retain copyright. Both institutions receive a non-exclusive licence for promotional, educational, cultural and documentary uses connected to NEARFAR. Prints produced for the shows will stay in the respective institution’s cultural archive for non-commercial use. Applicants remain responsible for any necessary model releases and location permissions.

Applications take the form of one PDF named firstname_surname_NEARFAR2026.pdf, containing:

Greek applicants must send their files exclusively via Smash to [email protected]. The €30 fee is paid through the programme’s official Photobookstore page. Applications are evaluated only if submitted on time with verified payment.

What we think
NEARFAR offers something tangible: a chance to present a fully produced solo exhibition in another country without having to finance and organise the printing and installation yourself. For a photographer with a coherent body of work but limited access to international galleries, that is a meaningful opportunity.
Another compelling aspect is the reciprocal selection process. Curators from the destination venue choose the work, which could bring the project into conversation with a different audience and a different photographic community.
