Photometria in Motion has opened its 2027 call for animation, short films and documentaries, inviting filmmakers to submit works of up to 20 minutes for screenings in Ioannina, Greece.

Submissions opened on 1 November 2026 and close on 20 January 2027. Creators from Greece and abroad can enter, with no restrictions on subject matter.

Three categories and a month of screenings

The call covers Animation, Short Films and Documentaries. Selected works will be screened on a continuous loop throughout April 2027 in the renovated Photometria Photography Center in Ioannina.

Photometria also runs photography competitions, including the Parallel Voices 2026 photography portfolio competition. Photometria in Motion is dedicated specifically to storytelling through moving images.

Submission deadlines and fees

Entry fees depend on the submission period, with discounted rates available for students:

Early bird, 1–30 November 2026: €10 standard entry; €5 for students.

Regular, 1–31 December 2026: €15 standard entry; €8 for students.

Late, 1–20 January 2027: €25 standard entry; €15 for students.

How to submit a film

Entries are submitted online through FilmFreeway. Film files must be available to download, run for no longer than 20 minutes, and include a brief description. If the film’s spoken language is not Greek, the call requires embedded English subtitles.

Submit your film through the Photometria in Motion FilmFreeway page. Further information is available on the official Photometria website.

Selection, results and rights

Films will be selected by Panagiotis Papoutsis, co-founder of the Photometria International Photography Festival, based on how closely the work’s execution reflects its stated idea. Results are scheduled for 14 March 2027 on the organiser’s website and social media. Selected filmmakers will also be notified by email.

Filmmakers may submit more than one work, although a maximum of one work per creator can be selected. Copyright remains with the creator. The terms also allow promotional use of selected films, their retention in the organiser’s archive and possible future re-exhibition with attribution. Entrants remain responsible for rights and permissions relating to footage, audio and people featured in their films.

What we think

For filmmakers who already have a completed short or a compact documentary, the appeal is a month-long opportunity to put the work in front of an audience. A 20-minute limit gives a story room to develop without forcing it into an extremely short format.

Frequently asked questions

Can I submit more than one film?

Yes. Multiple entries from the same filmmaker are permitted, but only one of their works can be selected for screening.

Does the film have to follow a particular theme?

No. The call is open-topic, provided the film meets the duration and submission requirements.
