Apple has released Final Cut Camera 2.4, a major update to its iPhone video capture app, with a redesigned interface, variable-aperture support on iPhone 18 Pro, and more monitoring tools for professional workflows.

The new version became available as a free software update on September 29, 2026, and also takes advantage of iOS 27 features including professional video scopes, Clean SDI Out, and genlock offset.

There is one important distinction: expanded ProRes support, Clean HDMI Out, the option to disable digital zoom, and wired media import into Final Cut Pro for Mac had already arrived with Final Cut Camera 2.3 on June 30, 2026, so they are not new to version 2.4.

A redesigned interface and faster manual control

Apple has redesigned Final Cut Camera to make key settings such as shutter angle, ISO, and white balance easier to reach. The app also gains customizable overlays, false color and clipping indicators for exposure, improved focus peaking with sensitivity control, a tally light while recording, and a two-finger gesture for a cleaner viewfinder.

Variable aperture on iPhone 18 Pro

On iPhone 18 Pro, Final Cut Camera 2.4 can directly control the new 48MP Fusion Main camera’s variable aperture from F1.48 to F4. Creators can choose aperture priority, shutter priority, or full manual operation for more direct control over depth of field and exposure.

RGB Parade, histogram, and new monitoring tools

With iOS 27, the app adds professional video scopes including RGB Parade and histogram for more accurate color and exposure monitoring. False color and clipping indicators expand the exposure tools, while improved focus peaking helps with more precise focus control.

Version 2.4 also adds Clean SDI Out through an HDMI-to-SDI converter for a clean signal in broadcast workflows, plus genlock offset to compensate for timing differences between the iPhone and other genlocked cameras or when recording displays.

Cinematic mode effects for regular video

On iPhone 18 Pro, Final Cut Camera can now bring Cinematic mode effects to regular video, including footage captured in ProRes or Apple Log. Creators can then adjust focus points and depth of field while editing in Final Cut Pro.

What had already arrived in version 2.3

Apple released Final Cut Camera 2.3 on June 30, 2026 with Clean HDMI Out for an external monitor or recorder, ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 422, and ProRes 422 LT options, the ability to disable digital zoom, and easier iPhone-to-Mac media import into Final Cut Pro. That release also added 23.98 fps recording.

The distinction matters: Clean HDMI Out and the additional ProRes options belong to version 2.3, while version 2.4 brings the redesigned interface, iPhone 18 Pro variable-aperture control, new scopes, and the iOS 27 workflow additions.

Availability

Final Cut Camera 2.4 has been available since September 29, 2026 as a free software update. Variable-aperture control requires iPhone 18 Pro, while professional scopes and the new SDI/genlock capabilities are tied to iOS 27 and compatible hardware.

What we think

Version 2.4 makes Final Cut Camera a more complete capture tool by combining direct exposure control with scopes and monitoring features more commonly associated with dedicated production apps. Variable aperture on iPhone 18 Pro is practically useful for creators who want more deliberate control over depth of field and exposure, although the full feature set depends on newer iPhone hardware and iOS 27. It is also important to separate the new 2.4 additions from features that had already arrived in 2.3.
