Instagram is adding an AI assistant inside Edits that uses real account data to explain what is working in Reels and suggest what the creator could make next.

In the official Instagram for Creators announcement, Edits lead Brett Westervelt explains that the assistant combines metrics such as follows, views, video retention, likes and shares with comments, Instagram trends and audience interests.

The rollout has started for Edits users in the United States. The tool is free with a daily prompt limit, while Meta has already previewed additional assistant usage through Edits Plus in Meta One.

Edits Assistant analyzes your own account

The key difference from a general AI chatbot is that Edits Assistant can use Instagram insights from the specific account. It can review the performance of previous Reels, identify patterns across different time periods and answer questions about what held attention or which content generated stronger engagement.

Instagram says the available signals include follows, views, video retention, likes and shares. These are combined with comments, current platform trends and audience interests so the answers can be tailored to the individual creator rather than based only on generic advice.

From analytics to ideas for the next Reel

The assistant goes beyond describing numbers. Creators can ask for new Reel ideas based on what has already worked with their audience, compare different videos or request suggestions for hooks, captions, scripts and trending audio.

In Instagram’s official example, the conversation starts with a goal — such as greater reach or a deeper relationship with the existing audience — and the tool then suggests directions connected to previous Reels and account comments.

AI handles the analysis, the creator keeps the decisions

Instagram positions Edits Assistant as a tool that does the digging through the data rather than replacing the creative decision. The approach was also shaped by creators who worked with the Edits team and asked for help with analysis without handing the final creative control to AI.

That means suggestions about a topic, hook or duration are starting points to test, not a guarantee of better performance. The creator still decides what fits the style, audience and goal of each video.

Availability and Meta One

At launch, Edits Assistant is rolling out to Edits users in the United States. Free use includes a daily prompt limit, but Instagram has not published a specific number of questions.

Meta has announced that Edits Plus will become part of Meta One and will include more cloud storage for project syncing as well as additional Edits Assistant usage. The September 30 announcement does not provide a specific rollout date for Greece or the rest of Europe.

What we think

For creators who publish Reels consistently, the most interesting part is not another source of generic ideas but the ability to connect suggestions to the account’s own performance data. The tool’s value will depend on how specific and testable its recommendations are and whether it helps creators make better decisions without pushing content toward the same formulas.
