Instagram now has an Apple TV app, bringing Reels, longer videos and live content from the phone to the living-room screen.
The tvOS version appeared in the App Store in late October 2026, with release metadata pointing to October 23. It is free to download and requires tvOS 26.0 or later. This is an Instagram viewing app for Apple TV hardware, not an Apple TV+ subscription service.
How Instagram works on a television
The interface is designed for remote-control navigation and watching from the sofa. The home screen offers recommended videos and creators, while viewers can discover new content and resume watching across devices. Instagram is pitching the experience as something to share with friends or family rather than another session of scrolling on a phone.

The official screenshots show a landscape video layout, engagement controls, a grid of recommended content and a separate sign-in flow. Logging in can involve approving a notification on your phone to authorize access on the TV.

Beyond Reels: longer videos and live shows
The TV app is described as a home for Reels, longer videos and live shows. Meta began testing Instagram for TV on Amazon Fire TV in the US in December 2025, expanded to Google TV in February 2026, and reached Samsung TVs in June. It had already outlined plans for longer creator videos, episodic series and live formats, although that does not mean every experimental feature on other TV platforms is already available on Apple TV.

Why video creators should pay attention
For photographers and filmmakers publishing Reels, the television changes the viewing conditions. A vertical clip may now have to work on a large display viewed from across the room. Clear sound, legible subtitles and framing that does not rely on tiny details become more important.
The additional screen arrives while Instagram is also investing in content production and performance tools. First Draft for faster initial Reel editing and the Edits AI Assistant for interpreting performance address different parts of that same creator workflow.
Availability and requirements
An official European App Store listing specifies Apple TV running tvOS 26.0 or later and a free download. The Greek App Store listing checked did not yet confirm Apple TV compatibility, so local availability should be checked directly in the App Store on the device.

What we think
There is something slightly odd about Instagram, a platform built around a small vertical screen, now asking for a place next to YouTube on the television. Yet for anyone making video, that shift is meaningful: the same Reel might be watched alone on a phone or by a whole group in a living room.
We would not suddenly shoot every Reel horizontally just because an Apple TV app exists. We would pay closer attention to the sound mix, subtitles and whether a shot still reads clearly when the screen is several feet away. The television is a useful reminder that a video’s life does not end when it is uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an Apple TV+ subscription?
No. Instagram is a separate free app for Apple TV hardware and is not part of the Apple TV+ subscription service.
Can I download it in Greece?
The Apple TV version is listed in other European App Stores. The Greek listing checked did not yet confirm tvOS support, so the best way to verify local access is to check the App Store directly on your Apple TV.
