A 38-gram digital compact invites us to compose through a transparent window while keeping a proper screen beside it to review the results.
The Escura InstantSnap.novo is the second generation of the unusual InstantSnap. Its landscape body combines a large transparent composition window with a 1.3-inch screen, providing two distinctly different ways of approaching a picture.
A clear viewfinder and a real screen
The viewfinder is a window through which you look directly at the scene, rather than an electronic live view. Interchangeable inserts provide three composition grids, and a selfie mirror is included. The LCD has 240 × 240 resolution, making it useful for checking the captured image.
This transparent framing approach is reminiscent of the Godox C100 and its active transparent viewfinder, although Escura adds a separate screen and interchangeable framing inserts rather than relying exclusively on the clear window.

What the InstantSnap.novo can capture
The camera uses a CMOS sensor described by the company as 5MP interpolated and produces 2560 × 1920 JPG stills. Its lens is 3.2mm f/2.8, with a quoted minimum focus distance of approximately 30cm. The specified shutter speed is 1/125 second.
Video is recorded as AVI at 1440 × 1080 and 30fps. Five built-in colour filters and a 35mm-film-style frame option focus on experimentation and atmosphere rather than extensive manual control.
Images are stored on separately sold 4–64GB microSD cards. There is a USB-C connector, and the body measures 106 × 60 × 16mm and weighs 38g.

What we think
What appeals to us about the InstantSnap.novo is the attention it gives to framing. Looking at the scene through a clear window instead of constantly watching a display could make everyday photography feel more spontaneous. The small LCD solves the practical issue of reviewing shots without losing that approach.
The specifications, however, are not aimed at photographers seeking RAW files, high resolution or flexible exposure control. AVI video, simple optics and preset filters make this a fun camera, not a replacement for a smartphone or a conventional compact. It makes much more sense on a day out with friends than on a job where technical consistency matters.
