The Fujifilm instax mini Evo 2 gives its hybrid instant camera a much larger display and a different way to remember the moment: it can save what happened just before the shutter was pressed.

The second-generation model combines digital capture, selecting photos before printing, and instax mini film. Its touchscreen, Expanded View preview and Immersive Movie mode are the headline changes.

A 4.5-inch screen and Expanded View: seeing beyond the frame

The rear display grows from 3 inches on the first mini Evo to about 4.5 inches, filling nearly the entire back. More controls move to the touchscreen, while the increased display area makes composition and selecting which shots to print more comfortable.

Expanded View shows the area around the final picture frame. You can track a moving subject as it approaches the edge of the composition and time the shutter more easily. The extra area is a preview aid; it does not mean everything visible around the frame becomes part of the saved photograph.

Immersive Movie saves the four seconds before the photo

The new Immersive Movie feature saves a short, four-second video clip of the moments leading up to a still photograph. It is closer in spirit to a smartphone Live Photo: it gives a single captured frame a brief moving context.

This is not a conventional video camera designed for recording long continuous clips. The feature is intended for short memories and casual behind-the-scenes moments around a still shot. A microSD card is required to capture and store the extra data.

Digital photographs, 100 effects and real instax prints

The mini Evo 2 remains a hybrid: capture digitally first, then choose which shot is worth a sheet of instax mini film. It still offers 10 lens effects and 10 film effects, giving 100 possible creative combinations. Physical dials preserve the tactile character of the Evo family.

This generation uses a larger 1/2.77-inch sensor, with approximately 6.1MP output for standard stills and 12.8MP in the wide-angle setting. Those figures suit small instax prints and casual digital sharing rather than large-format, high-resolution photographic work.

The companion mobile app also lets the camera function as a printer for pictures taken with a smartphone. That is useful when you want to hand someone a print without needing to shoot the original image on the instax.

The wider family also includes the instax mini Evo Cinema with QR-linked video prints and the instax WIDE Evo with larger-format film. They serve different priorities: the mini Evo 2 focuses on the screen, still photography and short moments leading up to the shot.

Price and availability

Availability is expected in late November 2026, with a reported US price of approximately $290 ($289.95). An official price for Greece or the wider European market has not been confirmed. instax mini film is sold separately.

What we think

With instant cameras, an unsuccessful frame can become an expensive one the moment it comes out on film. That is why the Evo hybrid approach makes sense: you choose what deserves printing rather than spending a sheet on every attempt. A 4.5-inch screen makes that decision considerably easier.

Expanded View is especially appealing for portraits, moving friends and quick street scenes. Seeing what is approaching the edge gives you a little more time to react. It does not change the photograph being recorded, but it could help you catch it at the right instant.

Immersive Movie feels more like a playful memory feature than a filmmaking tool. That is not necessarily a weakness. If you photograph backstage moments, family events or social content, a few seconds before the still may be more memorable than another preset. For serious video capture or large image files for editing, however, a different camera remains the sensible choice.

Frequently asked questions

Does the instax mini Evo 2 print every picture it takes?

No. You capture a digital image, review it on the screen, and choose when to turn it into an instax mini print.

Is Immersive Movie a replacement for regular video recording?

No. It saves only the four seconds preceding a still photograph, rather than recording continuous long-form video.

Do I need to buy film and a memory card separately?

instax mini film is required for physical prints and is sold separately. A microSD card is also needed for additional features such as Immersive Movie and wide-angle capture.
