DaVinci Resolve 21.1.2 promises less waiting for AI footage analysis, plus smoother timeline editing and motion graphics work.

Blackmagic Design released the update on October 26, 2026. Its headline claim is up to 14 times faster IntelliSearch analysis on Apple M6 computers running macOS 27 for DaVinci Resolve Studio users. This does not mean the entire application, or every computer, is fourteen times faster.

DaVinci Resolve 21 introduced IntelliSearch, the Photo Page and an extensive set of AI tools. Version 21.1.2 focuses on how efficiently and reliably some of those features can be used in everyday production.

IntelliSearch and Intel platforms: faster preparation

IntelliSearch analyzes footage so editors can find clips containing people and objects inside the Media Pool. The up to 14× improvement refers specifically to analysis on Apple M6 systems with macOS 27, not export times or playback speed across an entire project.

Blackmagic also reports faster IntelliSearch analysis, multicam SmartSwitch and other AI performance improvements on Intel graphics platforms, without publishing a comparable multiplier for those systems. This matters most with large media libraries and multi-camera shoots, where the preparation stage can hold up an edit.

Up to 4× faster OGraf playback and improved editing controls

OGraf playback is now up to four times faster on the Edit and Fusion pages. For animated titles and motion graphics, that could mean smoother previews when making repeated adjustments ahead of delivery.

OGraf templates gain select and multi-select controls, and responsive templates adjust to the timeline aspect ratio. Stop actions now follow action durations, while Linux users gain OGraf and Lottie graphics support.

On the editing side, the nearest-edit-point command prioritizes selected points. Lasso selection can automatically enter dynamic trim, and selecting edit points around gaps activates the trim editor. A current-clip indicator and optional loudness meters in the Edit mixer are also added.

Expanded automation and fixes for AI, Color and Fusion

The Studio scripting APIs now support more automated tasks, including organizing and exporting photo albums, applying grades and Fusion compositions, moving and trimming timeline clips, removing gaps and silence, and copying clip attributes. This builds on the MCP integration with AI assistants introduced in Resolve 21.1.

Fixes include more efficient Magic Mask cache storage and a resolution to render failures involving Magic Mask clips and selected in/out ranges. Other corrections address anamorphic output in Fusion, Follower expressions, Film Look Creator controls, imported HDR Vivid metadata and smart-bin searches.

On macOS 27, Blackmagic addresses Speech Generator speed and disk usage, along with Music Remixer problems. The changelog also covers Quick Export, collaboration timelines, SDI/remote monitoring and general stability.

Availability and what to check before updating

DaVinci Resolve 21.1.2 is available through Blackmagic Design’s official Support Center. The standard DaVinci Resolve edition remains free; the IntelliSearch feature and advanced scripting automation described above are Studio capabilities.

Before upgrading an active professional project, back up both the project library and the individual projects. Blackmagic says the library is designed to remain compatible with version 20.3.2, but projects opened in 21.1.2 cannot subsequently be opened in 20.3.2. Teams should also check their shared version setup.

What we think

Big benchmark figures get attention, but editors benefit most when repetitive waiting disappears. If you work with hours of interviews, multi-camera footage or large archives, faster IntelliSearch analysis could make a meaningful difference to how quickly you reach the creative part of the job.

It is good to see Blackmagic improving more than headline AI features. Small edit-point controls and faster OGraf previews target the repetitive actions that make layered timelines and graphics-heavy jobs frustrating, even on otherwise capable systems.

The 14× figure, however, is not a promise that every Mac suddenly performs fourteen times faster. It describes a specific task, hardware generation and operating system. On another machine, the useful question is how much time it saves on your own footage — and whether your backups are ready before you update mid-project.

Frequently asked questions

Is DaVinci Resolve 21.1.2 free?

The update is available at no additional cost to existing users of the corresponding edition. The standard DaVinci Resolve edition remains free, but IntelliSearch and the advanced AI automation described here require Studio.

Does 14× apply to every Mac?

No. Blackmagic specifies up to 14× faster IntelliSearch analysis on Apple M6 computers with macOS 27. It is not an overall application speed benchmark or a guarantee for other processors.
