Summary
- New rumors suggest that the Nikon Z70 may use a non-stacked 41MP APS-C sensor.
- The reported video features include 8K/60p, ProRes RAW and RED technology.
- The quoted 120 fps figure refers to a refresh rate with AF/AE, not confirmed full-resolution burst shooting.
- Nikon has not officially announced the camera.
The rumored Nikon Z70 is back in the spotlight with fresh claims of a 41MP APS-C sensor and 8K/60p video, raising the prospect of a genuinely fast DX-format mirrorless camera.
The updated specification list appeared on November 5, 2026. It is not an official Nikon announcement or a verified specification sheet, but a more detailed set of rumors than earlier reports.
A 41MP sensor and D500-style speed
The new claims point to a non-stacked 41-megapixel sensor paired with the EXPEED 7 processor. This differs from earlier rumors suggesting a 45MP stacked sensor. If accurate, the extra resolution could allow more cropping latitude for wildlife and sports, although pixel count alone says little about high-ISO performance.
The list also mentions a 120 fps refresh rate with AF/AE and a 5.76-million-dot electronic viewfinder, similar to the Nikon Z6III. Importantly, the 120 fps figure does not establish 120 full-resolution photographs per second: the description refers to a refresh rate and does not state a burst-shooting speed. A new digital teleconverter mode is also mentioned.

8K/60p, ProRes RAW and RED technology
For video, the headline claim is 8K at 60p, alongside ProRes RAW support and RED technology. For filmmakers, such capabilities might offer room for reframing, 4K delivery and flexible grading, depending on how Nikon implements the actual recording formats.
The report does not clarify whether ProRes RAW would be recorded internally or externally, or specify the supported resolutions, crop factors, bit depth, recording durations or thermal limits. An 8K/60p specification on its own also says little about storage requirements and on-set workflows.
The rumors include a new top-mounted REC button. Drawings linked to an N2416 registration have been interpreted as pointing to the Z70, but Nikon has not officially identified that code as the rumored camera.
How would it compare with the Z50II?
The current Nikon Z50II has a 20.9MP DX sensor, EXPEED 7 processor, advanced autofocus and 4K video. A Z70 matching the leaked specifications would sit well above it, aiming at demanding action photography and video rather than merely adding resolution. The photograph accompanying this article shows the Z50II, not the rumored Z70.
The Z70 name has already surfaced in a Nikon Singapore newsletter report, and in August it briefly appeared on Apple’s ProRes RAW product list before being removed. Those episodes explain why speculation continues, but they do not verify the latest hardware claims.
The same unconfirmed list suggests a price around or below US$2,000 and an announcement within roughly two weeks of its November 5 publication. Neither the price nor the timing has been confirmed by Nikon.

What we think
A properly fast Nikon DX body would be particularly appealing for wildlife and sports. The D500 earned its reputation as a practical action camera, built around speed and reliable handling. If the Z70 follows that philosophy, it could be much more compelling than a camera designed simply to chase a big megapixel number.
A 41MP APS-C sensor would be useful when a bird or distant athlete needs a heavy crop. But we would want to know about rolling shutter, buffer depth and subject tracking during real bursts. Those are the details that matter when a bird suddenly changes direction or the decisive moment happens in an instant.
For filmmakers, 8K/60p is certainly an eye-catching number, yet sustained recording reliability, sensor crop and actual codec choices matter far more on a shoot. A compact DX body with a genuinely professional video workflow could make the Z70 an unusually attractive hybrid.
Frequently asked questions
Will the Nikon Z70 shoot 120 photos per second?
There is no confirmation of that. The rumor refers to a 120 fps refresh rate with AF/AE, not a specified full-resolution burst-shooting rate.
Has Nikon officially announced the Z70?
No. The 41MP sensor, 8K/60p video, possible price and announcement date all remain unconfirmed.
