Canon has released new firmware versions for the EOS C50, EOS C70 and EOS R5 C, adding compatibility with the new CINE-SERVO CN30×40 IAS J and, especially on the R5 C, useful improvements to RAW playback, monitoring and connectivity.
The updates were released on August 19, 2026, bringing the EOS C50 to version 1.0.5.1, the EOS C70 to 1.1.4.1 and the EOS R5 C to 1.1.3.1. All three models gain support for the CINE-SERVO CN30×40 IAS J/R1 with RF mount and CN30×40 IAS J/P1 with PL mount, along with additional model-specific fixes.
The new versions do not change the cameras’ fundamental recording capabilities, but they have practical value for professional productions by expanding Cinema EOS ecosystem compatibility and resolving issues involving FTP, USB and day-to-day workflows.
What changes on the Canon EOS C50
The EOS C50 moves to firmware version 1.0.5.1. This version adds compatibility with the CINE-SERVO CN30×40 IAS J/R1 and J/P1 lenses and includes improved operational stability.
It is a considerably smaller update than version 1.0.4.1 released in June 2026. That earlier release added USB control for key camera functions, automatic SRT streaming reconnection attempts and additional improvements to Digital Zoom, View Assist and Look Files, as PTTL reported in its previous coverage of the EOS C80 and C50 firmware updates.
For users who do not plan to work with the new CINE-SERVO, version 1.0.5.1 does not introduce a major new function. Canon does, however, list improved operational stability.
Owners can find firmware, manuals and related downloads on the official Canon Greece support page for the EOS C50.
What changes on the Canon EOS C70
The EOS C70 is updated to version 1.1.4.1 and also gains compatibility with the CINE-SERVO CN30×40 IAS J/R1 and J/P1. Canon notes that when the camera is connected to external devices using the XC Protocol and the T value is 10 or greater, only the integer portion is displayed on the external device.
The firmware also fixes an issue that could interfere with the camera’s ability to connect to an FTP server and includes operational stability improvements. For productions relying on network-based file transfers, the FTP fix is the most important change beyond the new lens support.
Firmware and other support material are available through the official Canon Greece support page for the EOS C70.
EOS R5 C gets the most changes
The EOS R5 C moves to firmware version 1.1.3.1 and receives the broadest set of practical improvements of the three cameras.
In addition to compatibility with the new CN30×40 IAS J/R1 and J/P1 lenses, the electronic level indicator now changes color when the camera is actually level. It is a small change, but useful when working with tripods, rigs and gimbals.
More importantly for RAW workflows, RAW clips can now be played back in Media mode with Lens Corrections settings such as Distortion Aberration Correction enabled. This allows for a more representative in-camera review of the footage.
Canon also fixes an issue that could interfere with FTP server connections, as well as a case in which the R5 C might not be recognized when connected to a smartphone via USB. General operational stability improvements are included as well.
Firmware downloads and support material can be found on the official Canon Greece support page for the EOS R5 C.
What support for the new CINE-SERVO means
The common element across all three firmware releases is compatibility with the CINE-SERVO CN30×40 IAS J, a specialized professional zoom intended for productions requiring very long reach.
The availability of RF and PL versions allows Canon to integrate the lens into different Cinema EOS workflows, while adding support through firmware reflects the company’s approach of maintaining broader compatibility across its professional camera range.
For the average C50, C70 or R5 C owner, support for such a specialized CINE-SERVO may not be the primary reason to update. For rental houses, television productions, sports, wildlife and live events, however, this compatibility has considerably greater relevance.
What users should check before installing
For the EOS C50, firmware 1.0.5.1 can be installed on cameras running versions 1.0.0.1 through 1.0.4.1. EOS C70 firmware 1.1.4.1 applies to cameras running versions 1.0.0.1 through 1.1.3.1, while EOS R5 C firmware 1.1.3.1 covers versions 1.0.0.1 through 1.1.2.1.
Canon requires an SD, SDHC or SDXC card with a capacity of at least 512MB for the update procedure. Once the new firmware is installed, returning to an earlier version is not supported. On the EOS C50 and EOS R5 C, the update must be performed with the camera in VIDEO mode.
Canon also warns against loading menu settings generated with a newer firmware version onto a camera that is still running older firmware, as this may affect operation.
What we think
These releases are not major feature updates, but rather a firmware cycle that brings more of the Cinema EOS ecosystem in line with the new CINE-SERVO while resolving individual reliability issues. The EOS R5 C sees the greatest day-to-day benefit thanks to RAW playback with lens corrections and the FTP and USB fixes, while the main value for the C50 and C70 lies in new lens compatibility and improved stability.
