DJI has scheduled a new Enterprise product launch for 5 November, and the first images point to a folding drone with a multi-camera system that suggests thermal imaging.

The announcement appeared on 29 October under the tagline Always in Its Element. DJI itself confirms the launch date and time, but has not disclosed a product name, price or specifications.

What DJI’s teaser shows

The dark teaser imagery reveals a front-facing camera assembly with lenses and sensors of different sizes. Behind it are arms that appear to fold. The gimbal layout resembles the Matrice 5TD, although a visual similarity does not establish that the new aircraft will use the same sensor.

The possibility of a thermal camera is particularly relevant. Thermal imaging detects temperature differences rather than relying solely on visible light, helping operators identify hotspots or potential targets in poor lighting. Actual performance still depends on the environment, distance and the camera system’s capabilities.

Why the Matrice 5TD is part of the discussion

The existing DJI Matrice 5TD, used with DJI Dock 4, has a 1280 × 1024 thermal sensor according to DJI’s specifications. By comparison, the portable Matrice 4T has a 640 × 512 native thermal sensor, alongside a Super Resolution mode. These are specifications for products already on the market, not confirmed details of the upcoming drone.

DJI’s enterprise systems have also evolved through the DJI Dock 3 and thermal-equipped Matrice 4TD, extending automated operations to vehicle-mounted installations. A folding aircraft with a more detailed thermal sensor would meet a different need: teams that carry their equipment directly to an incident and launch on site.

Search and rescue, fires and infrastructure inspections

For rescue services, firefighters and inspection teams, a thermal camera can rapidly reveal clues that a conventional camera might miss: people in difficult terrain, possible heat sources or overheating components. Operators still need training and must verify what the imagery appears to show.

A practical example is using thermal drones to search for missing animals, where aerial sensors help teams narrow down the ground they need to cover. If DJI combines a portable airframe with greater thermal detail, these operators would have a compelling reason to evaluate it.

The 5 November launch

Always in Its Element is scheduled for Thursday 5 November 2026, at 14:00 Greek time (12:00 GMT / 07:00 EST). Until the official unveiling, DJI has not announced a model name, confirmed thermal resolution, flight endurance, pricing or availability for the new product.

What we think

For a rescue team or an inspection crew, being able to take a drone out of its case and get airborne quickly is a major advantage. Not every job has a permanent base, room for a dock or time for a lengthy setup. That makes the apparent folding design in this teaser worth paying attention to.

If DJI brings thermal imaging comparable to the 5TD into a portable aircraft, the extra detail could genuinely help with spotting small heat signatures and assessing a scene. Weight, endurance, weather resistance and how easily the live feed reaches the people making decisions will matter just as much. Those are the details we’ll be looking for on 5 November.
