The OPPO Reno17 series is set to introduce six-second 4K Live Photos, allowing more motion to be preserved around a still image before choosing the moment that matters.

The feature was previewed on 31 October 2026 by Zhang Ruoxing, product manager and spokesperson for the Reno series, in a post showing samples from a Song Yuqi stage performance. This is a preview ahead of the phones’ full announcement, rather than a complete specification reveal.

4K across focal lengths, with twice the recording time

OPPO calls the feature “all-focal-length 4K ultra-clear long Live Photos”. According to the official preview, the motion segment increases from three to six seconds, with 4K Live Photo capture supported across focal lengths. That statement refers specifically to the Live Photo feature; it does not confirm identical behaviour in every video mode or at every possible zoom setting.

A Live Photo combines a selected still image with a short moving sequence. Six seconds provide more room for expressions, stage gestures and spontaneous family moments, without always having to start a separate video recording.

The idea has a longer history: moving-photo concepts appeared in different forms with HTC Zoe before Apple introduced Live Photos to the iPhone. OPPO is now putting the emphasis on resolution and capturing more of the moment.

First Reno17 Pro camera samples

The two samples released alongside the preview show the singer performing under dramatically different stage lighting: blue in one frame, red in the other. Both carry the “4K Motion — OPPO Reno17 Pro” label.

These images illustrate the kind of scene the feature is designed for. However, the smaller images circulated online are not sufficient to assess actual 4K detail, dynamic range or low-light camera performance.

When will the Reno17 series launch?

OPPO opened early reservations in China on 30 October and has confirmed that the series will be presented in November 2026, without specifying an exact date. A Greek release schedule or price has not yet been confirmed.

Reports have also mentioned a 200MP main camera for the Reno17 Pro, but this is not among the confirmed details in the preview. OPPO has not yet specified frame rate, codec, HDR, audio or export options for the new Live Photos.

What we think

Six seconds do not sound like much next to a conventional video clip. For a photograph, though, they can change how you select a moment. There is more room to capture a facial expression or the small reaction that follows pressing the shutter.

I particularly like the promise of support across focal lengths. At a concert, for instance, you do not want to switch back to the main lens simply to capture a moving photograph. If shooting remains just as quick and straightforward, this could be useful well beyond the polished teaser images.

For people creating content, the important question is what happens after capture. Can we easily select the strongest frame, share the motion without a noticeable quality loss and take the result into other apps? Those workflow details will determine how often this feature is used.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 4K Live Photo the same as a six-second 4K video?

Not exactly. A Live Photo is a photography feature that combines a selected still moment with a short moving sequence. OPPO has yet to provide complete technical details about the file format, frame rate or export options.

When will the OPPO Reno17 be available in Greece?

No Greek release date or price has been announced. The series is scheduled to be introduced in China in November 2026.
