The new House of Lucie Agrinio has officially opened its doors, strengthening Agrinio’s role on the international photography map.

A large audience attended the inauguration of House of Lucie Agrinio, a new photography space created through the collaboration between the Lucie Foundation and Photopolis Festival.

Visitors responded enthusiastically, with hundreds attending the event and confirming the growing interest in photography and cultural activities in the region. The new venue aims to operate throughout the year, serving as a meeting point between the local community and the international photography world.

A New Home for Photography

House of Lucie Agrinio was established to host exhibitions, presentations, educational programs and cultural collaborations, providing a permanent base for photographic activities in Agrinio.

The initiative is part of Photopolis Festival’s broader strategy to strengthen international partnerships and cultural exchange.

The Opening Exhibitions

The inauguration featured two exhibitions from the Lucie Foundation.

“Lucie Scholarship Program” presents works by photographers recognized through the foundation’s international scholarship program, highlighting emerging creative voices from around the world.

At the same time, “The Power of Self-Portraiture” explores the artistic power of self-portraiture through works created by young artists supported by the Lucie Foundation.

The Contribution of Hossein Farmani

Special mention was made of Hossein Farmani, founder and president of the Lucie Foundation, one of the most influential figures in the global photography community and creator of the internationally recognized Lucie Awards.

Although he was unable to attend the opening because he was in Italy for the final preparations of the Ostuni Photo Festival, he expressed his support and enthusiasm for the creation of the new House of Lucie in Agrinio.

Photopolis Festival Travels to Italy

Just days after the opening, Photopolis Festival continues its international presence through participation in Italy’s Ostuni Photo Festival as part of the collaboration between the two events.

Three exhibitions selected by Photopolis Festival and curated by artistic director Eleni Mouzakiti are being presented in Ostuni:

  • Marianthi Efthymiou – Incomplete Shed
  • Christos Rontogiannis – Living in the West
  • Panos Charalampidis & Mary Chairetaki – Cornucopia

The participation of these exhibitions in an international photography festival offers valuable exposure for contemporary Greek photography and highlights the outward-looking character of Photopolis Festival.

Agrinio on the International Photography Map

The operation of House of Lucie Agrinio and the participation of Photopolis Festival in the Ostuni Photo Festival mark important milestones in the festival’s international development.

At the same time, they strengthen Agrinio’s position as an active center of culture and photographic creation, capable of building new collaborations and cultural exchanges with the international community.

What We Think

The creation of House of Lucie Agrinio is one of the most significant developments for the photography community of Western Greece in recent years. Combined with the international presence of Photopolis Festival, it creates the conditions for Agrinio to play an even more substantial role in the global photographic dialogue.
