The 11th “With Eyes Wide Open” returns to the Greek Film Archive from September 24 to 27, 2026, bringing together four days of screenings, tributes, masterclasses and discussions around Greek documentary filmmaking.
The annual event organized by the Greek Documentary Association presents 8 recent Greek feature-length works, 16 student documentaries in its competition section and a new program of 17 short and mid-length films. Together, the three main sections include 41 Greek documentaries.
The program also features Iranian filmmaker Firouzeh Khosrovani, who will present the award-winning “Radiograph of a Family” and give a masterclass, as well as a tribute to pioneering Greek documentarian Φώτος Λαμπρινός.
Eight feature-length documentaries from the past two years
The main feature-length section brings together eight selections from recent Greek production:

16 student films compete for the €1,000 award
The 2nd Student Short Documentary Competition includes 16 works by students from different schools and university institutions. The Best Student Documentary Award comes with a €1,000 cash prize, with the support of EKKOMED.

A new section with 17 short and mid-length documentaries
For the first time, the event includes a separate program for short and mid-length documentaries, giving additional space to a format that often has fewer opportunities for public screenings. The section includes 17 works by emerging and established filmmakers from the past two years:

Firouzeh Khosrovani and “Radiograph of a Family”
This year’s international guest of honor is Iranian filmmaker Firouzeh Khosrovani. She will present “Radiograph of a Family,” a personal documentary that explores ideological conflict in contemporary Iran through one family’s story, between secularism and Islamic tradition.
The screening will be followed by a masterclass focused on memory, identity and history, as well as on how personal archives and family memories can be transformed into a story with a broader, universal dimension.
Tribute to Φώτος Λαμπρινός
The program also includes a tribute to Φώτος Λαμπρινός, one of the pioneers of Greek documentary filmmaking and an important scholar of historical archives.
The tribute will feature “Η Μεγάλη Ουτοπία,” which follows the history of the Soviet Union from the 1917 Revolution to 1934 through extensive archival material, and “Επισκεφτείτε την Ελλάδα,” a satirical and sharply critical journey through historical events from the Metaxas dictatorship to the military junta.
Masterclasses, workshops and the full timetable
As in previous years, the screenings will be accompanied by educational masterclasses, workshops and open discussions. The detailed four-day timetable has not yet been announced and is expected to be published in the coming days.
