Nocs Provisions is entering the screen-free compact category with the Portal AFN7, a small rugged 16MP camera that also records 4K video and can shoot through the company’s binoculars or monoculars.
There is no conventional rear display for reviewing images; a small 0.96-inch OLED is used for menu navigation, while framing is handled by a digital viewfinder.
Screen-free design with a digital viewfinder
The Portal AFN7 uses a 1/3.06-inch CMOS sensor and captures 16MP JPEG photos. Its fixed-focus f/2.2 lens focuses from 1 meter to infinity and Nocs lists a 22.5mm 35mm-equivalent focal length. It also offers 8x digital zoom, an LED flash, 1/30–1/1000 sec shutter speeds and ISO up to 1600.
Video reaches 4K UHD at 30 fps in MP4. It provides six image presets plus a no-filter mode.
NocDoc turns binoculars into a long lens
The most unusual feature is NocDoc, an alignment tool included in the box. It attaches to the camera bayonet and lets the eyecup of Nocs binoculars or a monocular sit in front of the camera lens.
The digital viewfinder shows the image reaching the sensor through the optics, with a grid and crosshairs for alignment. It is effectively digiscoping designed directly into the camera.
Built for outdoor use
The body weighs 140g and measures 122 × 73 × 44mm. Its IP56 rating protects against dust, rain and water spray, but not submersion. The rubberized ToughWave housing adds grip and impact protection.
The sealed, non-removable 1,100mAh Li-ion battery is rated by Nocs for up to roughly 2,250 photos or 180 minutes of continuous 4K. A 4GB microSD card is included and cards up to 128GB are supported. Charging and file transfer use USB-C.

What we think
The Portal AFN7 is not aimed at challenging an advanced compact for image quality or control. Its appeal is the combination of a small rugged body, shooting without a conventional rear review screen and direct integration with Nocs optics, especially for hiking, birdwatching and casual digiscoping.
The small sensor, fixed focus and JPEG-only still output show that simplicity, rather than maximum post-processing flexibility, is the priority.
