The Maria Callas Museum and Eyes of Light – Arts in Health Hub are organizing the free Therapeutic Photography workshop “In the Light of a Legendary Life,” with six sessions in Athens from October 20 to December 1, 2026.

The program is aimed at 10 women with lived experience of cancer and draws inspiration from the life, artistic journey and personality of Maria Callas, using photography and personal storytelling as starting points for expression and reflection.

A photography workshop with no technical prerequisites

The program is not a technical photography course and no previous photography knowledge is required. Participants will work through photographic exercises, group activities and discussions around themes including self-acceptance, authenticity, personal transformation, the balance between strength and sensitivity, and resilience in the face of life’s challenges.

The workshop is designed and coordinated by Dimitra Ermeidou. The museum experience and the story of Maria Callas provide a framework for connecting images with personal experiences and narratives.

Six sessions and their themes

The six two-hour sessions will take place on October 20 and 27, November 3, 10 and 24, and December 1, 2026. Each session runs from 18:00 to 20:00.

The workshop focuses on the creative process and personal expression. Through the exercises, participants are invited to approach photography as a means of observation, storytelling and dialogue, using themes connected with Maria Callas’ life as a point of departure.

When, where and how to take part

The sessions will be held at the Maria Callas Museum, 44 Mitropoleos Street in Athens, close to Syntagma and Monastiraki metro stations. Participation is free and places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Participants: 10 women with lived experience of cancer.
  • Priority will be given to women who have experienced cancer within the last 5 years.
  • No photography knowledge is required and the program does not include technical photography training.
  • The deadline to express interest is Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 23:59.
