Cosina has announced new Silver editions of the Voigtländer Nokton 23mm F1.2 Aspherical and Nokton 35mm F1.2 for Fujifilm X-mount, retaining their manual-focus operation, fast F1.2 apertures, and electronic communication with compatible cameras.

These are essentially new Silver versions of two existing Voigtländer APS-C lenses, with Cosina officially listing a September 2026 release for both models in Japan.

The significance of the announcement lies less in changes to optical performance and more in expanding the aesthetic options available to Fujifilm X photographers, especially those who favor compact metal manual-focus lenses and classically styled camera bodies. Both Silver editions continue to feature electronic contacts supporting EXIF data, focus check, and, on compatible bodies, in-body image stabilization support.

Voigtländer Nokton 23mm F1.2 Aspherical Silver

The Nokton 23mm F1.2 Aspherical Silver is designed exclusively for Fujifilm X-mount and offers a 23mm focal length, equivalent to approximately 34.5mm on full frame. Its optical construction consists of 10 elements in six groups, including one double-sided aspherical element and two abnormal partial-dispersion elements.

The maximum aperture is F1.2 and the minimum is F16, with a 12-blade diaphragm. Minimum focusing distance is just 18 centimeters and maximum reproduction ratio is 1:4.9. The lens measures 59.3 x 43.8 mm, accepts 46mm filters, and weighs 214 grams. A dedicated screw-in lens hood is included.

Cosina says the optical system is optimized specifically for Fujifilm X APS-C sensors and is designed to maintain high resolution toward the edges without relying on digital in-camera corrections.

Voigtländer Nokton 35mm F1.2 Silver

The Nokton 35mm F1.2 Silver serves as a compact standard lens on APS-C, providing a field of view equivalent to approximately 53mm on full frame. Its optical design follows a traditional double-Gauss architecture, with eight spherical elements in six groups arranged nearly symmetrically around the aperture.

Its aperture range extends from F1.2 to F16 and it also uses 12 diaphragm blades. Minimum focusing distance is 30 centimeters, maximum reproduction ratio is 1:6.7, and the filter thread is 46mm. Dimensions are 59.6 x 39.8 mm and weight is just 196 grams.

Cosina places particular emphasis on the focusing mechanism, which uses a precisely machined all-metal helicoid and carefully controlled resistance to provide smooth, fine manual-focus adjustments.

Fully manual, but not without electronic communication

Although both lenses are manual-focus only and use mechanically linked aperture rings with 1/3-stop clicks, they are not completely passive lenses. Their electronic contacts enable EXIF transmission, focus check, and focus-distance display, while specific bodies can also support IBIS and parallax correction.

Compatibility is not identical across every Fujifilm X camera. Cosina lists support for models including the X-H2S, X-H2, X-Pro3, X-T5, X-S20, X-T50, X-E5, X-M5, X-S10, X-H1, X-T4, X-T3, X-T2, X-T30, X-T30 II, and X-E4, with specific minimum firmware versions. Older bodies including the X-T1, X-Pro2, and X-E3 do not support electronic communication with the lenses.

These are not new optical designs

The two Silver editions are based on existing X-mount lenses. The black Nokton 35mm F1.2 was released in 2021, while the Nokton 23mm F1.2 Aspherical followed in 2022. Cosina’s current lineup continues to list the original black versions alongside the new Silver editions.

PTTL had already covered the Fujifilm X version of the Nokton 23mm F1.2 in March 2022, when the same core specifications were presented: manual focusing, a 10-element six-group optical construction, 12-blade aperture, 18-centimeter minimum focus distance, and electronic contacts.

Pricing and availability

The official Japanese price of the Nokton 23mm F1.2 Aspherical Silver is 93,000 yen before tax, while the Nokton 35mm F1.2 Silver is priced at 81,000 yen before tax. Cosina officially lists September 2026 as the planned release period for both lenses.

Using the European Central Bank reference exchange rate on August 17, 2026, when one euro equaled 184.59 yen, the Japanese prices convert to approximately €504 for the 23mm and €439 for the 35mm. These are simple conversions of Japanese pre-tax prices rather than confirmed European retail prices, which may be higher due to taxes, import costs, and regional pricing.

It is worth noting that the original PetaPixel report lists October for the 23mm and September for the 35mm, while Cosina’s current official product pages list September 2026 as the planned release period for both models.

What we think

The new Silver Noktons do not fundamentally change the established 23mm and 35mm F1.2 lenses, but they expand a category that fits particularly well with the philosophy of many Fujifilm bodies: compact dimensions, metal construction, physical controls, and manual focusing. Anyone expecting autofocus or a new optical design will not find a meaningful technical upgrade here. For photographers who deliberately choose manual lenses and value handling and equipment aesthetics, however, the new editions add an appealing option without changing the proven character of the originals.

Yes. They support functions including EXIF, focus check, and focus-distance information on compatible bodies, while certain cameras can also support IBIS or parallax correction.

When will they be released?

Cosina officially lists September 2026 as the planned release period for both lenses.

How much will they cost?

Official Japanese pre-tax pricing is 93,000 yen for the 23mm and 81,000 yen for the 35mm, equivalent to approximately €504 and €439 respectively at the August 17, 2026 exchange rate. Final European retail prices have not been confirmed.
