Fujifilm is expanding the professional GFX ETERNA 55 ecosystem with the dedicated VF-GFXC2 OLED electronic viewfinder and the ETERNA ProRemote app for remote control and monitoring of up to four cameras.

The company announced two different but closely related additions for the GFX ETERNA 55 on September 8, 2026: the VF-GFXC2, an EVF designed specifically around the camera’s 4:3 open-gate format, and ETERNA ProRemote, an iPhone and iPad application connecting through Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or wired LAN.

Their importance lies more in workflow than simply extending the accessory list. The VF-GFXC2 gives operators a dedicated cinema viewfinder that uses the complete 4:3 frame, while ProRemote brings monitoring, essential operation, exposure tools and multicamera functions to iOS/iPadOS devices. For a camera intended for professional cinema sets, the two additions address two major practical issues: how operators view the image and how the camera can be controlled when physical access to it is difficult.

VF-GFXC2: 4:3 OLED without cropping the open-gate frame

The VF-GFXC2 is a dedicated electronic viewfinder exclusively for the GFX ETERNA 55. It uses a 0.64-inch OLED panel with a native 4:3 aspect ratio, 2048 × 1536 resolution and maximum brightness of 1,000 nits. Magnification reaches 1.0x.

The 4:3 choice is deliberate. The GFX ETERNA 55 can use the complete area of its 43.8 × 32.9mm large-format sensor for 4:3 open-gate recording. The new EVF can therefore display the entire frame without cropping instead of fitting it into a more conventional 16:9 panel. This is particularly valuable for framing and anamorphic productions where the vertical size of the sensor is an important part of the creative workflow.

Fujifilm also says the VF-GFXC2 optimizes its display characteristics according to screen brightness so that image tones remain natural when brightness is adjusted. A large eyecup helps block ambient light, while easily accessible function buttons provide direct access to functions including display magnification and peaking.

The body uses a one-piece machined aluminum cylindrical design. It weighs approximately 370g, measures 74.1 × 71.3 × 123.3mm and connects to the camera through a dedicated cable.

ETERNA ProRemote: three connection modes

ETERNA ProRemote runs on iOS and iPadOS and offers three different connection modes: Simple, Advanced-Single and Advanced-Multiple. The idea is for the same app to cover everything from quick basic remote control to more sophisticated multicamera monitoring.

Simple Mode connects over Bluetooth without requiring a separate access point. It supports up to four GFX ETERNA 55 cameras, allowing operators to start or stop recording, control power zoom, monitor tally status and back up or restore settings. Live view is not available in this mode.

Advanced-Single combines Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and is designed for one camera. It connects directly without an external access point while adding live monitoring and more advanced control over camera and lens settings.

Advanced-Multiple is the full multicamera option. It uses Wi-Fi or wired LAN through an external access point and allows up to four GFX ETERNA 55 cameras to be connected. The application can display the live feeds from connected cameras and act as a central monitoring and control point.

Monitoring with waveform, vectorscope and histogram

Fujifilm has not limited the application to a simple preview image. Advanced-Single and Advanced-Multiple provide image evaluation tools including waveform, RGB Parade, vectorscope and histogram. These can be displayed as overlays or in a side-by-side layout that keeps them outside the picture area.

Operators can also view frame rate, shutter angle, ISO, electronic ND value, iris and color settings alongside the live video feed. Manual focus, Touch AF and power zoom are supported, while recorded video clips and frame grabs can be transferred to the connected device for quick access.

In practice, an iPad can serve as an additional monitor for the camera crew, operator or other production staff. Fujifilm specifically cites crane shots as an example where the camera may be positioned somewhere that makes direct access to its physical controls difficult.

Why the two announcements belong together

The GFX ETERNA 55 was introduced as Fujifilm’s first dedicated filmmaking camera and uses a 43.8 × 32.9mm GFX 102MP CMOS II HS sensor capable of 4:3 open-gate recording at up to 48fps. The unusually tall sensor is one of the camera’s main differentiating features.

PTTL previously covered the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55 and its large-format 102MP sensor when the camera reached its commercial form in 2025. The VF-GFXC2 now directly complements that characteristic by using a 4:3 display panel itself.

At the same time, ETERNA ProRemote completes another side of the system: using the camera in rigs, cranes or multicamera setups where direct access to the body cannot be taken for granted. What matters is not simply that an iPhone can press record, but that in its Advanced modes the device becomes a monitoring and control interface with tools relevant to real cinema production.

ProRemote had effectively been previewed in the firmware roadmap

There is another interesting part to the timing of the announcement. In July, Fujifilm published a firmware roadmap for the GFX ETERNA 55, stating that firmware version 1.20 or later, scheduled for 2026, would add backup and restore of camera settings through a dedicated application.

PTTL had already covered the future GFX ETERNA 55 firmware updates, including MXF playback, additional anamorphic options, future Auto ND and LANC support.

That application now officially has a name, ETERNA ProRemote, and Fujifilm has revealed that its functionality goes far beyond settings backup.

As of September 9, 2026, the latest published firmware version for the GFX ETERNA 55 remains version 1.10 from July 15. Fujifilm’s official roadmap still places version 1.20 or later sometime later in 2026.

Availability and price

The VF-GFXC2 is expected to be released by the end of 2026. As of September 9, Fujifilm has not announced a European price or a separate price and availability date for Greece.

ETERNA ProRemote will be available as a free download. For Europe, Fujifilm’s regional pages state availability from late September 2026. Fujifilm USA gives an earlier date of September 10, 2026, indicating a regional difference in the rollout schedule. No separate date has been announced for the Greek App Store.

The launch announcement supports iPhone and iPad through iOS/iPadOS. Fujifilm has not announced an Android version.

For perspective on the overall cost of the system, the GFX ETERNA 55 itself is currently listed by European retailers at approximately €15,999 to €16,545 including VAT, depending on market and retailer. These are current retail listings rather than a newly announced Fujifilm MSRP.

The two announcements become more significant when considered together. The VF-GFXC2 fills an obvious gap for operators who want a proper cinema EVF while also making appropriate use of the unusually tall 4:3 open-gate frame of the GFX ETERNA 55.

ETERNA ProRemote could have an even greater practical impact because it expands control and monitoring without always requiring access to the camera body. Managing up to four cameras alongside waveform, vectorscope and shared settings makes the ETERNA 55 easier to integrate into more complex productions.

The main unanswered question is the price of the VF-GFXC2. In a system at this level, the cost of a dedicated EVF can have a meaningful impact on the final rig budget, so the complete picture will only emerge once Fujifilm confirms European pricing.
