Insta360 is unveiling the Luna Pro in China today, August 20, with the information available so far pointing to a single-camera gimbal device featuring a 1-inch sensor, Leica imaging and 8K recording capability.
The official launch is scheduled for 8:00 PM China time, or 3:00 PM in Greece. Insta360 has already published an unboxing video of the white version, while the retail packaging describes it as an “8K Gimbal Camera With 1″ Sensor.” Today’s event is initially focused on the Chinese market, and no details on global availability have been announced so far.
Luna Pro matters because it attempts to bring many of the core features of the more expensive Luna Ultra into a simpler single-camera design. Insta360 had already confirmed at NAB 2026 that the Luna Series is co-engineered with Leica and features a 1-inch sensor, a bright f/1.8 aperture and 10-bit color support, with Pro serving as the single-camera model.
What has already been confirmed about Luna Pro
Luna Pro is no longer simply a rumor. During the official Luna Series preview at NAB Show 2026, Insta360 confirmed both Luna Pro and Luna Ultra, its collaboration with Leica, the 1-inch sensor, f/1.8 aperture and 10-bit recording support. The company also confirmed that Pro uses a single camera, unlike Ultra’s dual-camera system.
There is also strong primary confirmation from FCC documents. The device is identified as Insta360 Luna Pro under model number CINSACHA, while a later compliance document explicitly states that the design was changed from a dual-camera to a single-camera configuration by removing the secondary camera module without changing the RF system.
According to the Chinese teaser material, Luna Pro features Leica Summicron optics, a 1-inch sensor, 14 stops of dynamic range, 4K30 vertical video, AI tracking and three-axis stabilization. It is also said to provide 2x “lossless” zoom at 4K, up to 4x digital magnification and a detachable remote display capable of operating from up to 20 meters away with an integrated wireless microphone.
The official Weibo unboxing adds another important detail: the retail box carries both the 8K and 1-inch sensor markings, while the detachable display is also shown.
What remains unconfirmed before the launch
Despite the growing amount of confirmed information, Insta360 has not yet released the complete technical specification sheet for Luna Pro.
PhotoRumors lists an approximately 20mm full-frame-equivalent focal length, 4K recording at up to 120fps, Dolby Vision HDR, a triple AI chip, Deep Track, an approximately 1,550mAh battery and a combination of internal storage and microSD support among the expected features. These details should still be treated as rumors until they are confirmed during the official launch or in Insta360’s final technical documentation.
How it differs from Luna Ultra
The main difference is the second camera. Luna Ultra uses a 1-inch main camera with Leica Summicron optics alongside a second 1/1.3-inch telephoto camera. It supports 8K30 Dolby Vision, 4K120, 10-bit I-Log and zoom up to 12x, including up to 6x Clarity Zoom.
Luna Pro removes that second telephoto module. This means the advertised 2x 4K “lossless” zoom should not be confused with the much broader telephoto flexibility offered by Ultra. On the other hand, the simpler design may make more sense for users who mostly shoot vlogs, everyday content and wide-angle footage.
PTTL previously covered the Insta360 Luna Ultra and its dual Leica camera system when the model launched in June.

4K vertical video could be its practical advantage
One of the most interesting elements of the teaser is 4K30 vertical recording. According to Insta360’s official Luna Ultra manual, its dedicated 9:16 portrait mode reaches up to 3K60. For 4K portrait output, the company recommends holding the camera horizontally and using a different shooting workflow.
If Luna Pro delivers direct 4K30 vertical capture as advertised, the feature may prove more practically useful to creators working with Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and TikTok than the 8K headline itself.

Against DJI Osmo Pocket 4 and 4P
Pricing will be crucial. In the Greek DJI Store, Osmo Pocket 4 is listed from 509 euros and the dual-camera Osmo Pocket 4P from 619 euros. Pocket 4 also features a 1-inch sensor, 14 stops of dynamic range, 10-bit D-Log and three-axis stabilization.
Luna Pro therefore occupies a difficult but potentially interesting position. It needs to make the most of its 1-inch sensor, Leica optics, detachable screen and AI features without moving too close to Luna Ultra in price.
What applies to Greece and Europe
At the time of publication, no international price or release date has been announced for Luna Pro. Insta360’s official Greek store does not yet list the new model, while Luna Ultra is available for 729 euros in its Standard Bundle.
Reservations for Luna Pro are open in China, but Insta360 has not yet clarified when Europe and other markets will follow.
Luna Pro had already appeared at NAB 2026
Today’s event essentially completes a story that began several months ago. Insta360 publicly previewed the Luna Series at NAB Show in April, when both Pro and Ultra were still being shown ahead of their full commercial launches. PTTL covered the first appearance of Insta360 Luna Pro and Luna Ultra at NAB 2026.
What we think
Luna Pro looks more interesting when viewed not simply as a “cheaper Ultra,” but as a simpler pocket gimbal camera for creators who do not need a second telephoto lens. The 1-inch sensor, Leica collaboration, detachable screen and especially 4K vertical capture could give it a clear identity. Pricing remains the decisive factor, however: with Osmo Pocket 4 at 509 euros, Pocket 4P at 619 euros and Luna Ultra at 729 euros in Greece, its eventual European price will determine how competitive it really is.
