Leica has introduced the new SL3-P, a 44-megapixel full-frame mirrorless camera with 8K capabilities, fast hybrid autofocus and Content Credentials technology.
Leica Camera AG announced the new Leica SL3-P from Wetzlar, positioning it as the company’s most comprehensive full-frame camera to date, alongside two new lenses for the SL-System: the Summilux-SL 50 f/1.4 ASPH. and the APO-Macro-Elmarit-SL 100 f/2.8.
The new camera matters because it shows Leica’s effort to strengthen the SL-System more clearly for professional hybrid production, combining high resolution, serious video capabilities, a durable body and authenticity tools for image files.
New 44-megapixel sensor
At the heart of the Leica SL3-P is a new 44-megapixel BSI full-frame sensor, offering up to 14 stops of dynamic range. The camera also features a Multishot mode capable of producing files up to 176 megapixels for cases where very high detail is required.
The ISO range extends from 50 to 200,000, giving the camera greater flexibility in different lighting conditions.
Hybrid autofocus and 40 frames per second
The Leica SL3-P features a new hybrid autofocus system combining phase detection, depth mapping with object recognition and contrast detection. According to Leica, the camera offers improved tracking, 819 AF points and continuous shooting up to 40 frames per second with full autofocus support.
The direction is clear: the SL3-P is not aimed only at studio or landscape photographers, but also at professionals working with fast action, portraiture, documentary and productions where reliable tracking is critical.
8K video and professional workflows
For video, the Leica SL3-P supports recording up to 8K, with 8.1K Open Gate in a 3:2 ratio up to 30p, HDMI RAW 8K Open Gate and 8K at 30p using the full size of the sensor. It also offers 5.9K up to 60p and 4K up to 120p for slow motion.
The camera integrates Apple ProRes up to 5.8K, while the new in-camera Leica Pure and Leica Cine LUTs for L-Log give more options to those working professionally in color grading and hybrid content.
Made in Germany body without the red logo
The Leica SL3-P is manufactured in Germany and adopts a more discreet design approach, with black controls and without the red Leica logo. The body is made of metal and has IP54 certification for protection against dust and water splashes.
The camera is based on the L-Mount, giving it access to a large number of compatible lenses from Leica and its L-Mount Alliance partners.
Connectivity and Content Credentials
Leica also emphasizes workflow. The SL3-P connects to the Leica FOTOS app via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB-C, supporting fast transfer of DNG, JPG and video files, as well as full remote control from a smartphone or tablet.
There is also native tethering for Lightroom Classic and Capture One, as well as Camera-to-Cloud via Adobe Frame.io. In addition, the SL3-P integrates Content Credentials technology, allowing images to be signed with tamper-proof metadata to help protect authenticity and intellectual property.
The two new SL lenses
Alongside the new camera, Leica introduced the Summilux-SL 50 f/1.4 ASPH., which it describes as the world’s most compact autofocus lens with this focal length and f/1.4 aperture. The lens measures 75.5 mm in length, 74 mm in diameter, weighs 584 grams, and features 11 aperture blades, two aspherical elements and a 50 cm minimum focusing distance.
The second lens is the APO-Macro-Elmarit-SL 100 f/2.8, inspired by the classic APO-Macro-Elmarit-R 100 f/2.8 from 1987. It offers apochromatic correction, a 30 cm minimum focusing distance and a 1:1 reproduction ratio, while also being suitable as a telephoto lens for portraits.
Price and availability
The Leica SL3-P is available worldwide from June 25, 2026, with a recommended retail price of €5,990 including VAT. The company also announced three kits: the SL3-P 28–70 Vario Kit at €6,990, the SL3-P 24–70 Vario Kit at €7,490 and the SL3-P 24–70 & 70–200 Vario Kit at €9,790.
The Leica Summilux-SL 50 f/1.4 ASPH. and APO-Macro-Elmarit-SL 100 f/2.8 are expected worldwide toward the end of 2026, with recommended prices of €4,500 and €2,450 respectively.
What we think
The Leica SL3-P looks like a meaningful strengthening of the SL-System, not simply an aesthetic variation. The combination of 44MP, 8K Open Gate, fast burst shooting, Content Credentials and professional connectivity shows that Leica wants to push harder into demanding hybrid productions while maintaining the discreet and premium character of the series.
