The Sony FX5 is officially priced at €5,399 for the body-only version and €5,999 for the package with the XLR-H2 handle in Germany.

Sony Germany has published the official European prices of the new Cinema Line camera, confirming a price of €5,399 for the body and €5,999 for the version supplied with the XLR-H2 handle.

The development is important because earlier information about the FX5’s price was based on initial listings and estimates. There is now an official reference point from Sony, although pricing for the Greek market has not yet been announced.

The two Sony FX5 versions

The basic Sony FX5 version, carrying the ILME-FX5B product code and supplied without the XLR handle, has a recommended retail price of €5,399.

The version that includes the XLR-H2 handle costs €5,999. The price difference between the two packages is therefore €600.

The handle adds professional audio recording capabilities, including two XLR/TRS inputs, a 3.5mm stereo input and support for audio recording at up to 96 kHz/32-bit float.

The €5,399 and €5,999 figures are Sony’s official recommended retail list prices and not necessarily the final amounts at which the camera will be sold by specialist retailers.

In practice, authorized dealers may offer products at lower prices, depending on their commercial policies, availability and promotional campaigns.

This means that the actual purchase price of the FX5 could be lower than the official list price, particularly once the camera becomes more widely available.

Greek pricing has not been announced

Sony Greece has already published the official FX5 product page, presenting the camera’s features and capabilities. However, no official price for the Greek market is currently displayed.

It therefore cannot be assumed that Greek pricing will be exactly the same as in Germany. The final amount may be affected by local commercial policies and distribution agreements.

Nevertheless, Sony Germany’s prices provide a clear indication of the level at which the FX5 is expected to be positioned across the rest of the European market.

What the Sony FX5 offers

The Sony FX5 features a 5K full-frame stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor with approximately 16.6 effective megapixels and a BIONZ XR2 processor with an integrated artificial intelligence processing unit.

It supports internal 16-bit X-OCN recording, Open Gate capture in a 3:2 aspect ratio, recording at up to 5K 120 frames per second and 4K 240 frames per second. Some of these functions will be enabled through a future firmware update.

The camera also provides more than 15 stops of dynamic range, three base ISO settings at 800, 4,000 and 12,800, five-axis image stabilization and an autofocus system with up to 759 phase-detection points.

What we think

Sony Germany’s official pricing clarifies the FX5’s position in the European market. The package with the XLR-H2 handle increases the cost by €600, but it is the more complete option for professional productions. Buyers in Greece should wait for the official local announcement and the first retailer listings, which could be lower than the recommended list prices.
