TerraMaster has unveiled the D8 Hybrid 2, a new eight-bay direct-attached storage enclosure featuring four SATA HDD/SSD bays and four M.2 NVMe SSD slots. It targets photographers, videographers, content creators and professionals handling large amounts of data, supporting up to 152TB of total capacity depending on the installed drives.
High-speed USB connectivity
The enclosure uses a USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface with up to 10Gbps bandwidth. According to TerraMaster, read speeds reach up to 1,020MB/s with a single NVMe SSD, while four hard drives can deliver up to 980MB/s depending on the RAID configuration. The company says a 5GB HD movie can be transferred in around five seconds.
Built for hybrid workflows
The D8 Hybrid 2 separates frequently accessed “hot” data on NVMe SSDs from archival “cold” data stored on high-capacity HDDs. It supports Windows, macOS, Linux, NAS systems, Apple Time Machine and TerraMaster’s TPC Backupper software for Windows.
Cooling and installation
The enclosure features intelligent active cooling with a temperature-controlled fan rated for more than 50,000 operating hours. Tool-free drive trays simplify HDD installation, while NVMe SSDs are installed through a side cover using thumb screws. TerraMaster Power Management improves energy efficiency and drive wake-up performance.
