TetherPro Optima 10G is the latest generation of Tether Tools tethering cables, using USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 with theoretical speeds up to 10Gbps and configurations for different camera-to-computer distances.

For studio, e-commerce and commercial photographers, the gain is not limited to peak speed: the range is designed for more stable continuous transfer of large RAW files without sharing the data connection with USB power delivery.

USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 up to 10Gbps

Optima 10G uses USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 and is backward compatible with lower USB speeds. Whether a session approaches 10Gbps depends on the camera port, computer, USB controller, capture software and file size.

The difference becomes more visible with cameras that have fast USB-C and large RAW files, where the time from shutter release to full preview affects the working pace of photographer, digital tech and client.

Data-only design without USB Power Delivery

Tether Tools selected data-only operation: the cables transfer data but do not provide USB Power Delivery to the camera. This is intentional so changing loads and power requirements across camera bodies do not interfere with tethering.

The camera therefore needs separate power from a battery, dummy battery or approved adapter. For long sessions this leaves the data path dedicated but requires a power plan before production starts.

Straight and right-angle connectors

The range includes straight-to-straight and straight-to-right-angle versions. A right-angle connector can follow the camera body, reduce protrusion and work with cable management, provided its orientation matches the specific port.

Available lengths run from 1 to 9.4 metres. At longer distances Tether Tools uses dual-IC TetherBoost signal management. The required length depends on studio layout and workstation position.

SecureLock extension for longer runs

The TetherPro Optima 10G Locking Extension is 4.8 metres long and uses SecureLock. The connection locks with a push and releases with a controlled pull, reducing accidental disconnection where two cables meet.

The extension maintains speeds up to 10Gbps, uses dual-IC conditioning and can create a total run up to 19.2 metres according to Tether Tools. As distance increases, routing, strain relief and protection from foot traffic become more important.

Durability and colour identification

The cables use a durable jacket, kink protection and weather-resistant construction for demanding sessions. The signature orange option improves visibility on a studio floor, while black versions suit more discreet setups.

Visibility does not replace cable ramps, tape or safe routing. In a busy space, the cable must be protected for both connection integrity and crew safety.

Availability and price

TetherPro Optima 10G is available from Manios Cine Tools in straight-to-straight and straight-to-right-angle versions at 1, 1.8, 3, 4.6 and 9.4 metres, priced from €52.08 to €208.32 including VAT. The 4.8-metre SecureLock extension is listed at €104.16 including VAT.

What we think

Optima 10G treats tethering as a production connection rather than a generic USB cable. Data-only operation requires separate power but clarifies the cable’s role and removes one source of variability. The benefit is greatest on cameras and computers with fast USB, while older bodies mainly gain from construction, length options and SecureLock.

Frequently asked questions

Do Optima 10G cables charge the camera?

No. They are data-only cables and the camera requires separate power.

Will every camera reach 10Gbps?

No. Actual speed is limited by the camera port, computer, software and files.

When is a right-angle connector useful?

When its orientation reduces protrusion and enables safer routing beside the camera.

How long can an extension run be?

Tether Tools states up to 19.2 metres in total with suitable Optima 10G combinations.
