“575 Days at 18 ANO” screens today, Sunday, September 6, at 20:30 at Cine Melina in Drapetsona, with free admission and a discussion afterwards.

Maria Galati’s documentary follows Giannis Charokopos through six stages, from day 0 to day 575 in the 18 ANO recovery programme. His photographs are more than an archive: they become cinematic shots that organise memory, fear, daily life and a gradual reconnection with the world.

Photography as a therapeutic tool

The film is built around the idea that photography can give structure to an experience that often feels chaotic. Observing and choosing a frame becomes a way to recognise people, places and emotions. The documentary does not romanticise recovery; it presents it through specific traces and first-person testimony.

Credits

Maria Galati directs, Maria Kefala is editor-in-chief, and Giannis Charokopos provides the script, texts and photographs. Eteron produced the film with The Untold, with music that includes work by Social Waste.

The discussion

The panel includes Charokopos, journalist Niovi Anazikou, sociologist and author Dimitris Yfantis, Panagiotis Voutyrakos of E.Ke.Ps.Y.E., psychologist and criminologist Rodi Kangelari, and addiction counsellor Andreas Kremmydas. The Untold journalist Maria Kefala moderates.

Practical information

The screening takes place on Sunday, September 6, 2026 at 20:30 at Cine Melina, 65 Sokratous Street, Drapetsona. Admission is free. Full details are in the official municipal announcement.

What we think

Photography has a dual role here: a personal means of survival and a public document. The discussion is important because it places the images in the real context of treatment, support and social reintegration.
