The Greek price fills in the most important detail that was missing from the September 4 announcement: the new Fujifilm X Mount super-telephoto prime will be positioned in Greece at €3,059 as its recommended retail price including VAT.
The pricing is particularly relevant for wildlife, bird, sports and aviation photographers because the XF400mmF4.5 provides a full-frame-equivalent angle of view of 609mm while weighing only 1,245g and maintaining an F4.5 maximum aperture.
400mm F4.5 in a body weighing only 1.25kg
The XF400mmF4.5 R LM OIS WR is a 400mm super-telephoto prime for Fujifilm’s APS-C X system. Because of the crop factor, it provides the angle of view of a 609mm lens in 35mm format while retaining an F4.5 maximum aperture.
Its optical construction consists of 21 elements in 14 groups, including four ED and two Super ED elements. Fujifilm designed the optical layout to suppress chromatic aberration and maintain high resolution at long distances.
The lens weighs approximately 1,245g without caps, hood and tripod collar, while its length is 239.5mm. Those are notably restrained dimensions for a super-telephoto prime with this kind of reach.

5.5-stop OIS and linear-motor autofocus
Optical image stabilization provides up to 5.5 stops of compensation, an important feature at such a long focal length, especially when shooting handheld.
Focusing is handled internally by a linear motor. The lens also offers Focus Preset for instantly returning to a stored focusing distance, a Focus Control Button and a focus limiter for subjects at distances of five metres or more.
The construction includes weather sealing at 20 points, operation in temperatures down to -10°C and a fluorine coating on the front optical element for improved resistance to water and dirt.
Teleconverters extend the reach to 1,219mm equivalent
The XF400mmF4.5 is compatible with both of Fujifilm’s existing XF teleconverters.
With the XF1.4X TC WR, the actual focal length becomes 560mm, equivalent to 853mm on full frame. With the XF2X TC WR, it reaches 800mm, delivering an angle of view equivalent to 1,219mm.
This flexibility is especially valuable for wildlife and bird photography, where additional reach can be critical without requiring an entirely different primary lens.
How it compares with the XF500mmF5.6
Its closest relative in the Fujinon lineup is the XF500mmF5.6 R LM OIS WR. The 500mm offers greater native reach, equivalent to 762mm on full frame, but the XF400mmF4.5 is approximately 90g lighter and around two-thirds of a stop faster.
In Greece, the current recommended retail price of the XF500mmF5.6 is €3,559, putting the new XF400mmF4.5 €500 lower.

At €3,059, the XF400mmF4.5 sits firmly in the specialist category, but its position within the X system is clearly defined. It combines very long reach with a brighter F4.5 aperture than the XF500mmF5.6 and a weight that remains relatively low for a 400mm prime.
Its strongest appeal will be to photographers who regularly shoot wildlife, birds, sport or aircraft and need both fast shutter speeds and mobility.
