Thypoch is entering the fast autofocus prime market for Fujifilm X with the Sculptor AF 23mm f/1.4, officially announced on October 27, 2026, at a US launch price of $349.
It is the company’s first autofocus prime, following the full-frame Voyager 24-50mm f/2.8 zoom for Sony E. Designed for Fujifilm APS-C bodies, it combines a familiar everyday focal length with a wide maximum aperture.
A 35mm-equivalent field of view and optical design
On Fujifilm APS-C cameras, 23mm delivers a field of view equivalent to roughly 35mm on full frame. That makes it a flexible option for street, travel, documentary photography and environmental portraits where the surroundings are part of the story.
The optical formula uses 12 elements in 10 groups, including two aspherical elements, four low-dispersion elements and one high-refractive-index element. Its ten-blade aperture runs from f/1.4 to f/16. Shooting at f/1.4 provides more latitude in low light and makes it easier to separate subjects from their backgrounds.
Autofocus, aperture ring and a compact build
The Sculptor has autofocus, a manual focus ring and a dedicated aperture ring with an A position for camera-controlled aperture. Its diagonal grip detailing gives it a distinct appearance among competing primes.

It weighs 283g and measures 71.4mm long, with a 52mm front filter thread. Minimum focus distance is 25cm and maximum magnification is approximately 0.13×, useful for nearby details but not true macro work.

The new model joins an already competitive market. The Yongnuo YN 23mm f/1.4 for APS-C, for instance, also offers autofocus, while Fujifilm X owners can choose lenses from Sigma and Fujifilm itself. For motion photography and video, continuous autofocus performance matters as much as the maximum aperture.
Price and availability
The US launch price is $349, and B&H has opened preorders ahead of shipping. No official European price or firm Greek availability date was identified. As of October 28, we had also not located a separately verifiable product page for this exact lens on Thypoch’s own website.
What we think
A $349 autofocus 23mm f/1.4 is the kind of lens that could earn a regular place in a Fujifilm photographer’s bag. The 35mm-equivalent view works for both street and travel photography, while f/1.4 opens up more options after dark without demanding a much larger kit.
It is encouraging that Thypoch has kept the physical aperture ring and the weight below 300g. On a small Fujifilm body, those details can make more difference to the shooting experience than an impressive-looking specification table.
Before buying, we would pay particular attention to continuous tracking of moving subjects and focus transitions during video. The presence of autofocus alone does not tell us how a lens will behave at a wedding, when photographing moving children, or during a shot that changes focus distance. For slower-paced everyday work, however, its size and price make a compelling combination.
